The Devon County Show is the shop window for Devon’s resurgent farming industry, as well as reflecting all aspects of Devon’s beautiful countryside.
Livestock are at the heart of the Show. There will be many thousands in total, competing for the coveted accolade of a Devon County Show rosette, and not just the finest cattle, sheep and pigs, but poultry, rabbits, donkeys, goats and alpacas.
A very special feature of the cattle classes at this year’s Show will be the National Red Ruby Devon Cattle Show, bringing together the very best of Devon’s oldest native breed of cattle from all over the country.
You can marvel at the skill of the shepherds in the sheep dog trials, while the stamina and skill of competitors in the sheep shearing classes have to be seen to be believed.
All aspects of Devon farming are strongly represented among the trade stands and the main farming organisations, including the NFU, CLA and the Devon Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs all have a major presence.
For lovers of Devon’s countryside, there is the Woodland Area, with its willow sculptures and woodland management display, or you can try your hand at traditional country pursuits like fly fishing and clay pigeon shooting in the Country Life area.
