The Adventures of Don Quixote by Bicycle – 18th, 19th and 21st of August 2012

This summer, on north Devon’s iconic tarka trail and kicking off Beaford Arts autumn event season, Burn The Curtain are performing ‘The Adventures of Don Quixote by Bicycle’ a unique and fun event for anyone looking for a new and eventful experience!

A show with a difference, the actors and the audience will all travel together by bicycle, as they experience the colourful and misguided escapades of Don Quixote, self-styled Knight of La Mancha.   This exciting piece of interactive family theatre, involves actors riding custom designed bikes; tall, wide, beautiful and strange, cycles that even a medieval knight might be proud of.  As part of the show audiences will also decorate their bicycles, and maybe even turn them into a horse.

Burn The Curtain, are an innovative Devon based outdoor theatre company, who create fun and engaging outdoor promenade shows for families and adults of all ages.   Their new show tells the tale of Don Quixote, who has spent his life reading about the heroic exploits of famous knights in books.  Now, with a little help from his reluctant squire Sancho Panza, he’s bringing these stories to life whatever the consequences!

“Cycling seems to me something that Don Quixote would do – just as he needed no particular reason to leave home in his 50′s and go on an endless quest, most of us cyclists also don’t require an end goal – the ride itself is enough!”  says Joe Hancock (Artistic Director, Burn The Curtain) who is also a keen cyclist.

On the 18th, 19th and 21st August, Don Quixote will travel to north Devon where a series of performances will take place on the Tarka Cycle Trail between Fremington Quay and Instow. Starting at either 11am or 3pm on the three days, people from north Devon have the opportunity to join Burn the Curtain on a unique experience along the beautiful tarka trail in the heart of north Devon.

Beaford Arts has commissioned the show, Mark Wallace (Director) says “It’s not very often you get the chance to turn your bike into a horse and cycle into the sunset. This is going to be a unique interactive experience for everyone and Burn The Curtain is the perfect company to bring to life the fabulous tale of Don Quixote. Everyone from cyclists, theatre lovers and families who enjoy being outdoors should hurry, tickets are strictly limited and it’s first come, first served!”  So for anyone who loves cycling or who enjoys theatre, or perhaps even both, bring your own wheels and a sense of adventure!

Tickets cost £7.50 (Adult), £5 (Child) and £22.50 (Family) and are available from Fremington Quay Café or from Beaford Arts on 01805 603 201 or at www.beaford-arts.org.uk.
