Cornwall is the new foodie capital of Britain according to News on-line, this week. Our Beer, Meats, Charcuterie, Ciders, Ice-Creams and Cheeses are slowly winning an army of followers throughout the country. Of course we would also have to mention the applause that Camel Valley Wines are receiving for their products, not least the delicious bottles of “Cornwall”. Despite the many obstacles facing the dedicated artisan bakers, butchers, chef’s, cooks, farmers and fishermen, mainly seasonality and distance, the word is out that the produce is fantastic and demand increasing.

In the North Cornwall area there are the highly acclaimed Deli-Farm Charcuterie, Harbour Brewery, Davidstow Cheeses, Camel Valley Wines, and Treleavens Ice Creams, just to start with. There are also Michelin starred restaurants in Padstow and Rock, which can be an incredible experience in themselves. So whether its a meal out or some tasty items for a pic-nic, all of these can easily be accessed from our North Cornwall Cottages.

Camelford Cottages include Nessa, Barn & Bray View. A lovely row of three traditional Cornish Cottages on Davidstow Moor, with unrivalled views of peaceful countryside to the Tors. And only 6 miles to the surfing beach of Trebarwith Strand.

Boscastle Cottages include 5 star Olde Carpenters Cottage on the river-side, and sumptuously presented Home Farm Farmhouse, next door to picture perfect Home Farm Cottage. These three offer a combination of outstanding location and quality interiors. The Garden Place males a delightful romantic bolt hole for two and is also pet friendly. Situated right in the heart of the village, it has views over the uneven rooftops to the Jordan valley.

Wadebridge Cottages are based only 4 miles away at Tregolls Farm. These four beautifully renovated and presented former barns, are a treat for any family to stay in. Quality fitments and furnishings with a great welcome from the resident farmers, will add up to a memorable holiday in fabulous countryside.

Whether it’s a foodie, bucket and spades, or surfing holiday you fancy this year, you are definitely going to be spoilt for choice of where to go, what to see or eat, and where to stay.

Exmoor and it’s surroundings attract lots of different visitors, for lots of different reasons. So it’s just as well that we are always adding new Cottages in this area, to our portfolio.

Two recent additions have been Briar Cottage in Lynton and The Loft in Lynmouth. These two lovely self-catering holiday homes couldn’t be more different. Briar Cottage sits in an elevated opposition above Lynton and offers pet friendly accommodation, with stunning coastal and country views. Whereas The Loft is exactly as the name implies, a wonderful second floor apartment in the eaves of a large character property in the heart of Lynmouth, with views to the East Lyn river.

Either of these cottages would make a great base to enjoy some of the up-coming Exmoor events. The North Devon and Exmoor Walking Festival makes the most of exploring this fantastic area and promotes walking for all ages and abilities, from the end of April to the beginning of May. If you are looking for a family friendly event around Whitsun, then the Dulverton Folk Festival could cheer you, with local musicians and country dancing. Also in May is the Exmoor Golden Horse Shoe Ride. This quality riding event attracts eager competitors, so if you enjoy equine sports, or are just an admirer, then this will be an event not to be missed.

Further Cottages in the Exmoor area can be viewed on this link.

If, like me, you are a regular viewer of Countryfile, then you would have seen some new and surprising aspects to North Cornwall in the last episode. Who had ever heard of Cornish Path Moss before, or in fact glimpsed into the secret world of St Nectan’s Glen, which holds a spiritual significance for many? If however, you regularly visit this beautiful area then these may be familiar already to you. The rugged coastline around Tintagel is not only dramatic, but shrouded in myth and legend. The winding coast road leads to some beautiful hidden valleys with waterfalls, such as St Nectans Glen, before reaching inland to Bodmin and Davidstow Moor. The variety in the scenery is incredible, from weather beaten cliffs and pounding surf, to wide open spaces with tumbling granite Tors, and that incredibly minute and important Moss that we all now know about.

Davidstow Moor is a protected area with wild ponies and sheep grazing contentedly, and leads to Crowdy reservoir, offering even more habitat options for wildlife. Right on the Moor and only a few miles from Tintagel we have three lovely genuine Cornish Cottages, which make peaceful retreats in themselves, or could be booked together for a larger family gathering or party. Nessa Cottage, Barn Cottage and Bray View were a former farmstead, now comfortably renovated and with unique furniture pieces, they sit in an unrivalled position with views to the surrounding countryside and Tors. Walks from the door lead to Davidstow Moor and further exploration off road is easy. You may even want to sample the acclaimed cheeses from Davidstow Creamery, where they have been making their award winning Cheddar for over sixty years. Quite honestly it would be hard to find a more perfect location as a base for exploring this wild, inspirational and beautifully dramatic corner of Cornwall.

Slee’s Meadow View gives you and your family a fantastic opportunity to really enjoy a sea and countryside holiday break for Easter. Only one mile from the coast at Peppercombe Beach with great rock pooling and a sandy beach at low tide, this modern contemporary home also has a great log burner for cooler weather. The whole family will enjoy the large safe garden and country walks from the door, and two pets are also allowed. This great family cottage is only a few minutes drive from both The Big Sheep and The Milky Way. This Easter from 29th March to 14th April, there are events especially for all the family at The Big Sheep, with Easter Egg hunts and lots of baby lambs expected to be there too.

Hartland Abbey and its famous Garden, is also somewhere special to visit this Easter holiday, where a celebration of Bluebell days will be held from 21st April. These beautiful flowers carpet the area from the walled garden to the sea, and with new walks and a gazebo in which to enjoy the view, its a must visit venue in North Devon this spring.

Coastguard Cottage, Stoke is ideally situated to enjoy Hartland and all the area around. This characterful pet friendly cottage, has pretty cottage gardens as well as lovely views and comfortable furnishings. The welcoming log burner helps a break at any time of the year to be a cosy one.

Another destination to visit in the spring is Clovelly, where Easter events are planned with trails through the village. Or you may just wish to stroll through this historic little fishing village and watch the current comings and goings around the harbour.

Willow Cottage in Woolsery could be your ideal character bolt hole, from which you can easily explore Clovelly and the whole Hartland Point area. This pet friendly barn conversion offers an economical base for a small family or friends, to enjoy all the surrounding countryside.

Home Farm Farmhouse Boscastle, is brand new to Marsdens web site this week. This beautifully presented authentic Cornish Farmhouse, has spacious living accommodation as well as four luxurious double en-suite bedrooms. Situated on a working National Trust farm the owners can provide you with lots of helpful information, as well as great produce, eggs from their chickens and you may be tempted by their own made sausages or visit their newly opened Deli/Cafe in the village. There is a very pleasant garden with a raised decked area for al fresco meals, and to enjoy the views which stretch out to sea, as far as Lundy Island. This is a great cottage for a larger family or a group of friends to share.

On the same farm is Home Farm Cottage, which is equally well presented and offers the same excellent taste of Cornish hospitality, just on a smaller scale to the Farmhouse. This cottage has so many extra little touches and genuine furniture pieces, it will be a delight to holiday here. A large garden to the front of the cottage is a great space for all the family and it also enjoys those wide open sky and sea views.

Olde Carpenters Cottage sits on the riverbank in the heart of Boscastle, towards the harbour. In the same ownership as the previous two cottages you are immediately aware of the style, taste and luxurious touches, of the accommodation on offer. The Visit England 5 Star rating is well deserved. With a small patio and parking space to the front you could just sit and watch life along the riverside go by.

The Garden Place is a really lovely, pet friendly garden apartment, with views over the ancient rooftops of Boscastle to the Jordan Valley. The living room is so cosy with wood panelled walls and a welcoming contemporary style log-burner. No matter what season you wish to explore the surrounding countryside, you are assured of a cosy romantic bolt-hole on your return home.

Bosacstle is an interesting village to use as a base for your holiday. In lovely weather the children will enjoy paddling in the stream or fishing by the harbour walls. The South West coastal path meanders though the village and over the headlands for the more energetic walkers. Great surfing can be had at a number of beaches that are easy to reach, the closest being Trebarwith Strand about 5 miles away. This fantastic iconic Cornish beach has limited parking so arrive early to get your space. Once settled you can swim, surf, rock-pool and then either buy ice-creams or enjoy a great Pub lunch at The Port William on the beach.

There are events planned throughout the year and Boscastle Festival is a good place to check out what’s on and when, especially for details of who may be guesting at the Food, Arts and Crafts Festival in October, a really special happening every year in the village.
