Property code: LYDLO

Located just 14 miles from a Dartmoor National Park visitor centre in the grounds of the owner's house, Lydford Lodge is a pretty, open-plan log cabin that’s perfect for two. Cosy and comfortable with lots of countryside touches, this single-level lodge is ideal for those looking for a base to come back to after a long day of walking or hiking. Enjoy an al fresco meal on the BBQ on the outside patio, looking out across the spacious lawn garden and trees in the distance.

Whether you’re snuggled up in the lounge area, in front of the wood burner or cooking up a storm in the quaint but well-equipped kitchen, you’ll find it easy to embrace rural life here. Exposed beams and high apex ceilings make it bright and airy without losing its traditional charm, while co-ordinating fabrics and upholstery add to the country-cottage feel. Wake up in the screened-off bedroom area after a restful night’s sleep, then head to the lounge to admire the countryside views and plan the day ahead over your morning coffee.

Lydford Lodge is conveniently located off the A386, making it easy to get to nearby places such as Lydford Gorge (3 miles), that boasts a 30-metre waterfall and scenic walking routes, and Okehampton Castle (9 miles), that is steeped in history. Lydford itself is only 2 miles away and has three pubs to choose from for a quiet lunch or drink. Further afield, experience the bustling city streets of Plymouth (23 miles) where you’ll find a mix of new and old, including the Barbican and Sutton Harbour and Drake Circus Shopping Centre.

We had a wonderful holiday and the cottage is perfect. Very comfortable and good location with easy access to good pubs and walks on Dartmoor. The large garden has a bench where you can sit and watch the sun go down or just watch the horses in the neighbouring field. The owners are very welcoming and helpful. We will definitely be returning.

The cottage is very comfortably furnished. You have a beautiful view into the garden and can even see a deer. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need. The host Wendy and David are very friendly.

Peaceful well equipped cottage. Easily reached from A30. It is very close to the lovely village of Lydford and Lydford Gorge, but access on foot to the village or closest pub requires a short walk on the busy A386.
