Spend a day scouring the beach at Lyme Regis (10 miles) on the hunt for historic fossils or delving into the age of the dinosaurs at Dinosaurland Fossil Museum for a fascinating activity for all the family. For an active adventure, Sidmouth is a pretty 8-mile walk away with dramatic cliff top views and idyllic beaches where you can stop off en route.
