Things to Do in Salcombe

Salcombe’s position by the estuary makes it easy to beach hop between beaches either side of the water. Just up from the town you will find the fabulous beaches of South Sands and North Sands. A short ferry from the town operates to South Sands beach which has been awarded Blue Flag Beach status. There is also a Sea Tractor which ferries passengers between South Sands and the beach of North Sands. To reach the beaches on the opposite side of the estuary just hop on the East Portlemouth ferry and you can explore a number of wonderful beaches including Mill Bay and Sunny Cove. You could also pick up the South West Coast path and do a popular circular walk to Gara Rock, which also has a very pretty beach to relax on.

Away from the beach there are plenty of villages nearby to explore, including the small fishing village of Hope Cove and picturesque village of Thurlestone, both of which offer traditional pubs to stop off in.

Just south of Salcombe, looking over South Sands is Overbecks previously owned by inventor Otto Overbecks and now looked after by the National Trust. The gardens are full of exotic and rare plants with amazing views across the estuary - well worth a visit.
