Shaldon Area Guide
If you want to experience real Devon coastal life first hand, then the unspoilt village of Shaldon is the perfect base. Located on the south bank of the River Teign estuary with views across to the neighbouring seaside town of Teignmouth, it has a thriving local community, great local shops, eateries and attractions.
The village is dominated by the Georgian architecture of the local buildings which run alongside the estuary. The coastal location gives rise to plenty of opportunities to get in, on or close to the water. Shaldon beach is a safe spot for swimming, rowing or SUP (stand up paddling board). Head up the hill and join the South West Coast path past Labrador Bay with it’s amazing view across to Lyme Bay in Dorset and walk the 6 miles to Torquay.
Shaldon is also a great base to explore the area. Take the foot ferry across to Teignmouth (a service that has been running since the 13th century) or take the short drive to the Unesco world heritage site of Torbay with it’s seaside towns of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham.
