Hartland Abbey blooming beautiful
Published: Friday 25th Mar 2011
We visited Hartland Abbey for the beautiful Daffodil Sunday last week. They have a wonderful collection of historic daffodils, many planted 150 years ago. The wild flower days at the stunning Abbey have now become established as really good fun days out for everyone including dogs, of which there were hundreds (with their owners!).
Parts of the estate which are normally closed to the public were open and we went on a lovely walk to Blackpool Mill, which starred as ‘Barton Cottage’ in the BBC adaptation of ‘Sense and Sensibility’. Hartland really is a mystical part of North Devon, rich with myths of pirates and wreckers, but on a gorgeous day like Sunday we could only think of holidays, sunshine and the coming summer.
