North Devon cheesemaker in national awards haul

The Westcountry is renowned for its delectable range of cuisines, as evidenced by a North Devon farmhouse cheesemaker, who recently netted its biggest haul of prizes ever at the 2012 National Cheese Awards.
Held at the Bath and West Show on May 30, Parkham Farms came away from the ceremony with an unprecedented 13 awards, taking the cheddar classes by storm in the process.
Using milk from its own and 28 other local herds to hand, the company perfected its product to take home nine medals and four special trophies including the J Sainsbury’s Trophy for Excellence in Cheesemaking.
Parkham Farms director Peter Wiles said upon accepting the award: ‘This is a pat on the back for everyone in the business, from the other members of my family to our cheesemakers Edgars Bankovs and Stefan Wyne, our farmer suppliers, and all the staff - and of course the cows themselves.’
