Here are some of our Top Ten suggestions for you, to ensure that you get the most out of your family holiday this year, in North Devon. Not only do we have some fantastic beaches to enjoy, but a whole variety of activities or adventures can be shared with your nearest and dearest, helping you to get the most out of your precious relaxation time together.

The tunnels beaches in Ilfracombe is quite unique and a memorial to Victorian ingenuity and passion for "sea-bathing" as a health remedy. Kids of all ages will enjoy exploring both the tidal pool and adjacent rock pools, as well as making sand castles or swimming in the sea.  Access is direct form the town so there is handy shopping and eateries too. Marsdens Cottages in Ilfracombe range form smart sea-view apartments to family houses for a larger gathering.

Woolacombe beach is so well known for its miles of golden sands and access to some great surf. Surfing lessons are available on site for any age, so you can soon be catching the waves yourself or admiring those who make it seem so easy.  Marsdens Cottages in Woolacombe not only have easy access to the sands, but you could also fall asleep to the sound of the sea.

The Tarka Trail stretches some thirty miles and offers traffic free, safe cycling for all. There is a particularly flat section between Braunton and Barnstaple, bordering the Taw river and estuary. This section is part of the North Devon Biosphere, which we at Marsdens are proud to sponsor, and which has many rare species to spot. Harford Barn at Landkey Nr Barnstaple, is new to the portfolio and offers lovely accommodation close to this historic town. Whereas Cottages in Braunton reflect the traditional cosy sea-side village home.

Lynton and Lynmouth offer a fabulous flavour of both rugged Exmoor coastline as well as wooded valleys and secret river-side walks. The south west coast path meanders through both villages and offers the chance to sample both sea-side and cliff top life, with a ride up the water powered lift. With opportunities for further excellent walking in every direction.

If the weather has an unhappy day, which this summer has been a rare occasion thankfully, then try a visit to The Big Sheep near Bideford. This great family friendly theme park offers a fun day out for all the family with sheep themed activities including races.

Finally, if a more contemplative quiet day is your idea of holiday heaven, then visit the RHS Gardens at Rosemoor Nr Torrington. You could just enjoy the immediate impact as you stroll around the grounds or take inspiration from the planting and purchase some beautiful additions to your own garden.
