Last year we ran a competition for our visitors to win a meal cooked by a celebrity chef during their stay. Those who booked a Marsdens Cottage Holiday by a certain date were entered into the prize draw and the winners - Toby and Nicola Limbrick and their sons William, aged 8, and Max, aged 5 - stayed in Rockpool in Croyde.
Well known BBC chef Martin Dorey went round to the property one sunny afternoon and along with help from William and Max, cooked a BBQ fit for a king. He said: "I started by talking about local oysters from the Torridge then smoked them with a portable stovetop smoker that I use a lot. I served them hot from the smoker with a chilli and lime dressing. Then I showed the kids how to make their own burgers using local beef from Barton Farm Shop and Parkham cheddar. For the main I made a leaf salad and a crunchy new potato and hazelnut salad and served it with BBQ Monkfish lemon parcels wrapped in parma ham. I also cooked some fresh Cornish sardines. We finished the meal with a plate of Eton mess with raspberries and meringue smashed up by the kids! "
After returning home from Croyde, Toby emailed us saying: "Thank you so much for sending Martin Dorey to us on Sunday. Martin produced wonderful food and wine and was a great host, he got the boys involved and gave is some top tips for days out and things to do. The barbeque was a highlight of our week and something we will remember for a long time."
