Dunster by Candlelight

Published: Tuesday 3rd Dec 2013

Dunster by Candlelight takes place every year on the first Friday and Saturday in December when this remarkably preserved Medieval Village turns it back on present day wattage and lights its streets with candles.

Friday 6th December 5pm to 10pm

Saturday 7th December 4pm to 10pm

There is no parking or access to Dunster Village during Candlelight. Park and ride buses are the only way to visit.  Buses leave from Minehead, Porlock, Watchet and Wheddon Cross.  Further details can be found on the website  To mark the beginning of the Festival on Friday at 5.30pm there is the Lantern Lighting Procession which winds its way through the village until all the lanterns in the streets are lit. Most of Dunster’s wide variety of shops are open throughout the two evenings whilst restaurants and street stalls offer delicious food.

During both evenings there are a variety of street entertainers including carol singers, morris dancers, hand bell ringers, large fairground organ and choirs.  The atmosphere is both traditional and exciting, truly an event for all ages. All the money raised by street collections is donated to a local charity – St Mary’s Hospice.
