Christmas comes but once a year and so too does the planning, but this doesn’t have to be a source of panic or stress. In fact, the anticipation and on-going celebration during the build up to the big day can be an excuse to partake in some traditional winter warmers and enjoy some magical local community events. One of the greatest and most engaging ways to get into the festive spirt is in attending local Christmas markets, where amid the hustle and bustle of curious shoppers, it is possible to discover both traditional Christmas treats and imported holiday goodies from around the world.

Christmas Market

These seasonal markets are popular throughout the UK and Devon is no exception, with Ginger Monkey Events working with Braunton each year to transform the centre of the village into an enchanting winter wonderland. The result is an eclectic mix of over 150 traders and stalls, packed full of gorgeous Christmas gifts, local artwork and much more, which makes this event the biggest Christmas Market in Devon.

Visitors to the market are able to take in a rich atmosphere, with an enthralling mix of sights, smells and sounds as they explore the various stalls and attractions, while taking the opportunity to enjoy local beers, hot mulled wine and several tastes from around the world at the market’s food court. There are also several live events and activities to be enjoyed, including meeting Santa, complete with sleigh; rides and games; as well as plenty of live music and dancing throughout the day.

While the market is open, so too are many of the local shops, bars and restaurants within Braunton itself, which include a diverse selection of styles including Le Bistro du Coin, with its relaxed French style; Squires Fish & Chip Restaurant, serving delicious traditional fish and chips; and the Wild Thyme Juice Café, which has a laid back, friendly, cosy feel and has won awards for excellence for 3 consecutive years.

You can also visit the Braunton & District Museum and Information Centre Shop, which is housed within the village Bakehouse Centre and offers a wide range of fascinating local history booklets, gifts and souvenirs. These include a varied selection of locally produced fabrics, hand-knitted baby garments and original paintings that portray some of the stunning local views, many of which would make fine and unique Christmas gifts for family and friends.

Christmas Market

With so much to offer during the festive period and beyond, Braunton and its Christmas market are each hidden gems with untold treasures that are just waiting to be discovered. For those looking for a less conventional way to celebrate the Christmas period and who are willing brave the waves, there are several beaches close to the village of Braunton that offer excellent surfing opportunities. After which, there is plenty of time warm up with some tasty mulled wine or with a rich mug of hot chocolate.

The Braunton North Devon Christmas Market is a fantastic event that truly offers something for everybody of all ages, ranging from those to looking to find unique Christmas gifts to visitors who want to while away the evening and soak up the Christmas spirit, as well as a wonderful opportunity to experience a magical winter event.

The North Devon Christmas Market will be held on Saturday 2nd December and will open from 3pm-11pm.
