Tucked within the craggy landscape of Dartmoor National Park, Widecombe Longhouse is a traditional Devonshire property packed with personality and rustic charm. In this 15th century delight that’s ideal for large families, you’ll be transported back in time by original features such as white-washed walls, beamed ceilings and the beautiful stone exterior. With miles of woodland, wetland and rugged tors to discover, spend your days exploring to your heart's content before returning to the welcoming warmth of the crackling wood burner.

Accessed via a single-track road, the property is one of two rural retreats set in tranquil surroundings. Step inside to find a wonderfully quirky hallway leading off to the downstairs rooms, including the lounge with its flagstone floors, comfortable sofas and inglenook fireplace. Although modestly sized, the kitchen has everything needed to whip up delicious meals or a late evening snack. The dining room is an excellent spot for after dinner board games, featuring the stone staircase leading upstairs to three cosy bedrooms. The bathroom is also found upstairs, with a three-quarter sized bath. Outside, the enclosed garden is perfect for children and canine companions to let off some steam.

With Dartmoor literally on your doorstep, you’ll be spoilt for choice on places to explore on foot, by bike, or even on horseback. Nearby Widecombe is a perfect spot for an afternoon stroll with two pubs, cafes and craft shops just 2.5 miles away. For an unforgettable family day out, the resorts of Torquay and Paignton are 23 miles away. Known as the English Riviera, these port towns are famed for their pretty harbours and multiple attractions such as the Living Coasts Aquarium and Paignton Zoo.

Beautiful house in middle of dartmoor park, peacefully quirt with links to local villages and attractions for the kids, and plenty of areas to walk at the doorstep.

Cottage was comfortable, plenty of space and garden good for dog. Kitchen was well equipped but will not to bring everything if you plan on cooking proper meals. No local shop to pop to. Location was great for exploring Dartmoor and we enjoyed our week away.

Lovely base to stay. Ideal location for walking. Garden was fantastic for the dog. Comfortable accommodation for the 3 of us, feel the bathroom and kitchen would be a bit small for 6, but at the price a bargain. Only thing I was glad to come home to was a decent shower! There is a bathtub with an old fashioned hand held mixer shower head that was hRead moreard to keep at right temperature/ use when not used too although loads of very hot water. Can walk/ cycle straight from property. Very quiet too. Hide

We can warmly recommend the Longhouse. As a group of 6 friends, we stayed for a week and our highlights were the very comfy beds, cleanliness, the garden, well-equipped kitchen, the abundance of hot water, and the quick and friendly responses from the lovely hosts both before we arrived and when we were there. Navigating the 1 bathroom between 6 waRead mores very doable with a little communication! The location is beautiful - a quiet lane with a stream running close by, with Dartmoor on your doorstep. Lovely cottage in a lovely area of Dartmoor. Lovely area tucked up in the moors away from it all (especially fireworks) yet there Id good access to all surrounding areas, including the coast. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting the tranquility this area offers.
