A beautiful, serene seaside cottage with a beach hut feel to it, Paddles is an ideal escape for families seeking a taste of life on the coast. The property can be found on a quirky, colourful street in the North Devon fishing village of Appledore – home to a plethora of restaurants, pubs and art galleries. Kick back and dine alfresco on the stunning enclosed patio at the rear of the property to the soundtrack of the sea lapping on the rocks below.
Step inside the door and the soft, pastels tones and maritime theme throughout the cottage will serve to enhance your coastal adventure. The kitchen/dining area marries old and new, with the contemporary interior complementing the characteristic oak beams. Beyond this, the huge patio doors draw in plenty of light and give the room an airy feel. Open the patio doors to enjoy a sea breeze and views of the estuary. Neighbouring the kitchen/diner is the snug lounge complete with a charming ornamental fireplace. Cottage-style stairs lead you up to a further two floors where you will find two cosy double rooms, one homely twin room and a family bathroom.
Spend your days at the glorious Westward Ho! Beach, famous for its amusement arcades and great surf conditions. This is a 3-mile drive from Paddles but also accessible by the South West Coast Path which runs right through Appledore. From the patio across the estuary, you will see the cute, waterfront village of Instow – a prime dog walking spot, just a 6-mile drive or short ferry ride away. For dinner, you really are spoilt for choice. Sample brilliant pub grub in the village, just a 600m stroll away, or dig into fish and chips on the seafront.
