Property code: PADDL

A beautiful, serene seaside cottage with a beach hut feel to it, Paddles is an ideal escape for families seeking a taste of life on the coast. The property can be found on a quirky, colourful street in the North Devon fishing village of Appledore – home to a plethora of restaurants, pubs and art galleries. Kick back and dine alfresco on the stunning enclosed patio at the rear of the property to the soundtrack of the sea lapping on the rocks below.

Step inside the door and the soft, pastels tones and maritime theme throughout the cottage will serve to enhance your coastal adventure. The kitchen/dining area marries old and new, with the contemporary interior complementing the characteristic oak beams. Beyond this, the huge patio doors draw in plenty of light and give the room an airy feel. Open the patio doors to enjoy a sea breeze and views of the estuary. Neighbouring the kitchen/diner is the snug lounge complete with a charming ornamental fireplace. Cottage-style stairs lead you up to a further two floors where you will find two cosy double rooms, one homely twin room and a family bathroom.

Spend your days at the glorious Westward Ho! Beach, famous for its amusement arcades and great surf conditions. This is a 3-mile drive from Paddles but also accessible by the South West Coast Path which runs right through Appledore. From the patio across the estuary, you will see the cute, waterfront village of Instow – a prime dog walking spot, just a 6-mile drive or short ferry ride away. For dinner, you really are spoilt for choice. Sample brilliant pub grub in the village, just a 600m stroll away, or dig into fish and chips on the seafront.

  • 3 bedrooms – 2 doubles and 1 twin
  • 1 bathroom with shower over bath and WC on the second floor and 1 shower room with WC on the ground floor
  • Electric oven and hob, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer, microwave
  • Smart TV/Blu-ray in lounge, Smart TV in kitchen/diner
  • Enclosed patio with seating
  • Parking available in the public pay and display car park or roadside parking a 2 minute walk subject to availability

We love Paddles! Just returned from our 3rd of 4th visit. Fabulous location, right in the middle of Appledore and with amazing views over the estuary. Literally a 2 minute walk to 2 pubs and a short walk to local shops and more pubs. Perfect location for the car park too. Ideal location for restaurants and access to the beach/sea - teenage granddaughter loved it as did the little dog -first visit to the sea for him. Second flight of stairs quite steep for aged grandparents but we made sure we brought everything up/down at once! Lovely view from living room/patio even when the weather wasn't brilliant.

We have stayed in Appledore in a variety of cottages and Paddles was definitely one of the best. The location was superb, the property well equipped, very clean and very comfortable. Paddles is very well situated as it is half way between the village and The Lifeboat station and right opposite The Path, which leads to a public car park. The beds are very comfortable and the upstairs bathroom very large with an excellent rain shower. I love Paddles, having stayed here a few times now. The cottage has everything you will need and is cosy even on the coldest days. Rather than parking on the main Quay car park try and buy a weekly ticket for the smaller one just up The Path opposite the cottage.

Needs a refresh...location is of course perfect but outside space is tiny and the inside is looking a little tired. They don't provide washing tablets so take some if you need to do washing. Reported several issues that need resolving. We will not be returning to Paddles unless we hear it has been upgraded.
