Peacefully tucked away in the heart of Devon amongst some of England’s most stunning countryside, within easy reach of seaside resorts and just a short walk to the heart of the pretty village and pub.

This charming country cottage is set on the owner's private land, bestowing wonderful seclusion from the maelstrom of modern life. Set 18 miles northwest of Exeter in the heart of ‘The River Country', Lapford is a traditional rural village that's steeped in history and folklore. The cottage is perfect for a romantic getaway, as a base to explore the rugged wonders of Dartmoor and Exmoor, or just to wander the glorious surrounding countryside. Lapford train station opens up the sensational North and South Devon Heritage Coasts.

Inside the reverse-level semi-detached cottage you'll find a pleasing blend of traditional and modern, with loving touches throughout. From the pretty cobbled courtyard, enter the kitchen/diner's welcoming rustic ambience, with its sleek Art Deco feel and Scandi tranquillity. The bathroom has a meditative Mediterranean mood, with soothing shades of sea, sand and shell. Upstairs, the lounge has a sunny window seat with country views. The bedroom is dreamy bliss for tired limbs and excited minds. Next door, the owner's B&B has a licenced bar with farm cider and full English breakfasts. Share the owner's patio and gardens for al fresco meals and croquet; find secret corners, or amble through the avenue of trees on your exploration of the land.

Head northwest for idyllic beaches at Braunton (30 miles) and Westward Ho! (33 miles), and learn to tame breakers at the Surf School. Explore pretty Appledore (34 miles) and the bustling port of Bideford (28 miles), with their independent pubs, restaurants, seafood, shops and galleries and the North Devon Maritime Museum. Roam southeast and discover the delights of the English Riviera at sweet Teignmouth (35 miles) and idyllic Dawlish Warren (34 miles); the entire Riviera Line from Paignton to Exmouth is paradise.

The cottage was clean, comfortable and well equipped. The owners, Sandra and Steve were on hand permanently, and could deal with any queries quickly. They were very friendly but not obtrusive.

A lovely homely cottage with friendly owners in a beautiful village setting . We plan to return before too long! An ideal location for trips into Exeter and Barnstaple by train from Lapford station along the Tarka Line.

Dairy Cottage was perfect for our needs as a base for visiting family in the area and a day out that included a visit to the gardens at Fursdon, which we can recommend. We would certainly be happy to book again. Our hosts were lovely and very accommodating when our car had to go to the local garage!

On an autumnal late afternoon we received a literally warm welcome; Owner met the car and gave brief intro and the cottage was warm and inviting. This was a perfect get away from it all. It was a quick walk to the train station and the day rover tickets were a reasonable price and enabled us to jump on and off trains as much as we wanted to. The oub food was exquisite! The cottage itself was in a nice tranquil location and the owners were very friendly and apologised that they, themselves weRead morere away for the first few days we were there. I would highly recommend this cottage and would love to visit again in the future. Hide
