Cottages in Kingsbridge
Set in the heart of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and on the banks of its own estuary, you'll find the traditional English town of Kingsbridge.
Kingsbridge originally took its name from an ancient bridge that was built to connect the two royal estates of Alvington and Chillington. Its history as a market town dates back to 1219, where the Abbot of Buckfast was granted the right to hold a market in Kingsbridge to sell the fruit, vegetables and honey they made.
Today, this friendly town in South Devon still keeps its old fashioned charm and historic character; with many of its historic buildings restored to their former glory, in particular look out for The Old Shambles and the Market Arcade. You can also discover its past, with a visit to the Cookworthy Museum.
Kingsbridge offers an ideal base to all to enjoy and discover the many things to do and see in this beautiful area of Devon.
In the stunning blue waters of the Estuary, water enthusiasts appreciate the many water sports on offer. Along the coastal path, the most stunning views are only accessible by foot.
Plan your visit to catch one of the town’s busy markets or one of the many food festivals. There is a thriving arts and crafts community plus its farmers market offers the chance to sample its local produce.
