Cottages in Shaldon
Shaldon is a delightful little village, situated on the South Devon Coast, at the mouth of the Teign estuary.
With its unspoilt charm, this traditional fishing village and its thriving community offering a great range of shops, attractions, waterside inns and local restaurants, is proving to be a popular choice for a relaxing holiday for families and sea enthusiasts alike.
The main beach at Shaldon is always a popular choice for both beach and sea lovers. Its unique location right at the mouth of the River Teign provides ideal conditions for various water sports such as sailing, windsurfing, rowing, swimming and canoeing.
For the less adventurous but those who still want to get out onto the water, there are a number of boat trips to enjoy wildlife spotting or fishing, or leave the car to take the oldest passenger ferry in England across to Teignmouth for the day.
There are also plenty of interesting places to visit and see. Children (and parents) will love exploring the smugglers tunnel to get to Ness Cove Beach, a wonderful hidden secluded beach, backed by dramatic red cliffs. Visit the Shaldon Wildlife Trust, a small wildlife zoo or Shaldon’s Homeyards Botantical gardens. Walk the South West Coast path or the tidal Templar Way towards Dartmoor. Relax in one of the many cafes, pubs and restaurants to sample the best local produce and freshly caught sea food, straight from the boats.
And try and watch its famous Water Carnival and Regatta held on the 1st Saturday of August each year. It’s a fun-filled event for all!
