Situated off one of the most picturesque streets in the quaint fishing village of Appledore, Tunnel House is accessed, as the name would suggest, through its very own tunnel!  Surrounded by pastel coloured terraced fishing cottages, this charming part of the village has art galleries, interesting shops, character pubs, restaurants, cafés and historic quay all within walking distance from the doorstep.  The North Devon Maritime Museum is just up the road and situated in a Grade ll listed building which was the home of several master mariners and ship owners over the past 200 years, and worth a visit.  Tunnel House was built in the mid nineteenth century and still retains some of its original features such as slate floors, pine doors and an original fireplace.  Between 1874 and 1900 it was used as a language and music school.

Once through the tunnel entrance you are welcomed by a private and secluded courtyard with stylish patio furniture for enjoying alfresco meals during the warmer months.  The lounge/dining room has a cosy wood burner, perfect for relaxing in front of during the cooler months and original French windows which open directly on to the pretty courtyard.  The recently updated country style kitchen has oak worktops, a slate floor and space for mucky boots or sandy sandals!  There is a good sized double bedroom with original feature fireplace which overlooks the courtyard and 2 bathrooms on the first floor.  On the second floor, which is accessed by a steeper staircase and low beams (restricted height) is a king size bedroom with sea glimpses and a cosy twin bedroom with views over the village.

Whether you’ll be crabbing on the quay, playing a round of golf at the North Devon Golf Club, walking the coastal path or soaking up the live music at one of Appledore’s many characterful pubs, this family home is the perfect base for enjoying holidays with family and friends all year round.

Accommodation: Ground floor: Living room/dining room with wood burner, Smart TV, CD player and a selection of games and books. Kitchen with electric hob and oven, fridge, small countertop freezer, microwave and washing machine/tumble dryer, space for coats and shoes. First floor: Bedroom 1 with Double. Lovely property, ideally situated for all the facilities in Appledore.

Mrs K,

We enjoyed a comfortable week long stay at the Tunnel House. The property had everything we needed and the location was excellent because it is in the centre of beautiful Appledore and within easy driving distance of many fabulous places to visit like Clovelly and Woolacombe Beach. We recommend a walk along Abbottsham Cliffs followed by lunch at the Thatched Inn and also a visit to Buck's Mill for another pretty walk.

Mrs M,

Tunnel house is wonderful. Perfect location in the heart of Appledore & very comfortable. We had a lovely family holiday. The weather was amazing too!

Mrs L,
