In a picturesque coastal setting Garden Cottage is one of two romantic cottages at Saltdene, Combe Martin. Saltdene comprises of Ancient Thatch Cottage (the owners own home) a 16th Century Grade II Listed cottage and romantic Love Cottage (sleeps 2). All are set in four and a half acres of beautiful meadow and woodland, the grounds overlooking Combe Martin Bay. Newberry Beach, a smaller beach in the bay is just a stones throw away from the bottom of the drive. This popular coastal village is steeped in history and offers a good choice of pubs, restaurants, tea rooms and shops, which are 300m away.
For keen walkers the South West Coast Path runs past Saltdene with exhilarating walks and breathtaking views along the coast. Exmoor National Park is on your doorstep with many beauty spots, all just a scenic drive away, including Lynton & Lynmouth linked by the famous cliff railway.
The front door opens into the kitchen/dining space where you will find a stone fireplace with electric effect woodburner, kitchen area with electric cooker, microwave and fridge with ice box. From this room the staircase leads upstairs to a bedroom (which has a Superking bed, can be two singles) and a seating area. In the bedroom, four steps lead down to a small rear hallway, off which the bathroom is located. A decked patio area on two levels with inset pillar lighting is just outside the rear hallway and can double as a boot room. The cottage's garden is enclosed with a small sloped lawn area and offers you another place in which to unwind.
Please note: Given Garden Cottage's unique coastal location, guests are advised to keep pets on a lead when enjoying the grounds as part of the boundary is made up of sea cliffs.

We stayed for a week at the end of November in Garden cottage. For us the location was ideal. Near to the shops, pubs etc. Well positioned to visit places of interest of which there are lots either further West or East. Great scenery and walks. For the time of year the cottage was homely and cozy and we loved the log burner. We have a dog and we found our stay dog friendly with a small enclosed garden ideal to keep the dog safe. The owners were very welcoming, friendly and on hand if needed. You can step out the cottage and pick up the coastal path in either direction and when the tide is out there is a small beach a few hundred yards away. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this property.
Great hosts, lovely clean cottage , easy access to local amenities and Newberry cove .
This property is small but perfectly formed. We lacked for nothing here and could see the waves breaking on the beach from our bedroom. Situated in a great spot. The bed was massive and super comfortable - I wanted to take it home!!!! The owners were friendly and welcoming and we had a great time. We will return.
We found the property charming and had a great week - the goodies left for us where delightful and the owners were friendly and helpful hope to return at some point.
Perfectly placed for a dip in the clear blue sea. Quiet and comfortable within beautiful grounds and surrounding seaside amenities. Very accommodating hosts, who provided tasty Devon treats on our arrival. The quality of fixtures and fittings was good and we both slept very well all during our stay. Ideal for a quiet getaway, Newberry beach is just down the beach path away. Or walk to Combe Martin which is just 2 or 3 minutes away by foot and you have the usual seaside shops and eateries overlooking Combe Martin bay. Our Cavapoo was made welcome by Elaine's (the host) two pooches and she had a lovely time too. Highly recommended.
Never visited this part of Devon before, despite being regular holiday makers there. What a spot it was - perfectly placed for good walks, activities or just relaxing. The cottage was perfect for two and the owners very welcoming. Some delightful touches on our welcome and equipped with everything you need. A fantastic week; we will certainly be booking it again.
We loved our stay at Garden Cottage. It lived up to every expectation, even when it rained it was a joy. Our hosts were wonderfully helpful and friendly without being at all intrusive. 100% recommended!
Amazing property... Perfect spot.. We will be back.
Garden Cottage was ‘just the ticket’ for our holiday in North Devon. Perfectly situated next to a small cove it provides all you need for a very comfortable, homely stay. The log burner was a lovely addition in the evenings as we cooked in most nights due to the present COVID restrictions. Thank you, Bruce and Elaine, for your welcome (the complimentary cream tea was very well received!) and for your helpful suggestions.
