Property code: OC-PEPPER

This pleasant property offers a truly peaceful retreat nestling in a tranquil wooded valley leading down to the sea. This delightful semi-detached character cottage is set within a canopy of ancient trees with an abundance of ferns and wildflowers which will enthral nature lovers including those who choose to visit in May and experience the wonderful show of bluebells along the coastal path.

The cottage is approached via a narrow, steep, gravel track of just over one-third of a mile. The cosy living room with an inglenook has a wood burner, lovely at any time of year. The modern kitchen features a slate-tiled floor complemented by granite-style worktops and is well equipped for all your needs. From a rear utility room, useful for coats and boots, five steps lead up to the modern family bathroom and an open tread staircase leads to the three bedrooms on the first floor. A spacious double room, and two single rooms, all of which have wonderful views and feature deep windowsills and traditional latched board doors. As may be expected in this type of cottage, some doorways have low headroom. At the front of the cottage is a picnic table for al fresco dining. The lower tiers of the garden are not accessible but there is a lawn with picnic table and path to a lower lawn and pond with views into the wooded valley and shrubed lower garden.

Keen walkers will find endless coastal and country footpaths leading almost from the doorstep, a favourite being the walk to Peppercombe Beach (500 metres), with its unique red cliffs and mini waterfall. Pebbles at high tide give way to a lovely sandy strand with interesting rock pools and beach fishing at low tide. The South West Coast Path is spectacular here and spots such as Buck’s Mills (4 miles), Clovelly (7 miles) and Mouthmill Beach (8.5 miles) should not be missed. A little further afield, Hartland (12 miles) and Welcombe (15 miles) offer good places to stop and grab a bite to eat.
