Description
Drum Cottage is a wonderful 17th Century character cottage close to the Quayside in the picturesque fishing village of Appledore. With low hanging beams, original steep curving staircase and thresholds that all but a few will need to duck for, this is a really characterful cottage yet with all the modern conveniences needed for a family holiday. This double fronted cottage opens directly into a spacious beamed living room(6ft height - mind your head!) with comfy settees surrounding a woodburner in attractive inglenook. A door way leads through to the rear of the cottage where a surprisingly spacious open plan room offers a pristine modern kitchen/diner with underfloor heating. The attractive dining area leads into a large conservatory with more comfortable seating and underfloor heating for the cooler seasons. In good weather this living space naturally extends into a fully enclosed terraced patio garden ideal for relaxation and alfresco dining. A steep winding staircase as would be expected in a cottage of this age leads to two bedrooms on the first floor, a good sized double room and a small twin room each with window seats. Appledore has been a thriving fishing and trading village since the 14th Century with a long Maritime history that can be seen in the North Devon Maritime Museum located closeby. The pretty picture-postcard setting of colourful narrow streets lined with flowers, and a myriad of boats bobbing up and down on the estuary provide a fabulous backdrop for memorable holidays. Along the colourful cobbled lanes delightful cafes, Fisherman's pubs, individual shops and galleries can be found, whilst in season a short ferry ride takes you across the river to the estuary beach and further facilities at Instow. With two miles of golden sands and surfing at nearby Westward Ho!, Instow with its sailing, fishing and watersports just across the estuary, and numerous local attractions, Drum Cottage provides an ideal holiday base in this popular village at any time of year.
