Putsborough Cottages

One of the UK’s most beautiful beaches, Putsborough is a charming spot along the North Devon coast perched quaintly between Croyde and Woolacombe. For the second year running, it has been voted as the UK's best beach in the TripAdvisor Travellers Choice Awards (February 2016). What the location lacks for in size, it certainly makes up for with beauty.

Putsborough boasts a beautiful white sandy beach that during the summer months becomes extremely popular with holiday makers looking to have some fun in the sun! Don’t worry, even on a busy day, there’s still plenty of space for everyone to enjoy beach games!

The sea is the perfect place to enjoy a paddle; the water quality is fantastic, meaning that swimmers and surfers can enjoy the beautifully clear sea. Unfortunately, the beach is not lifeguard patrolled, but if you want that added safety, then neighbouring Woolacombe can provide lifeguard patrolled sands for several months of the year.

Putsborough, like the majority of locations along the North Devon coastline is renowned for its fantastic surfing conditions, and has been known to hold waves over 12 feet high! The beach is perfect for advanced surfers looking for punchy powerful waves, in addition to, beginners looking to try their hand at this exhilarating sport. The beach café situated just below the car park are more than happy to hire out their boards and wetsuits.

Parking at Putsbourgh Sands shouldn’t be an issue, situated just above the beach is a spacious car park, with steps down to the beach and café, during high season car parking tickets are around £7.50 for a day’s parking. (Seasonal and weekend tickets are also available.)

Obviously after a morning or afternoon of paddling, playing and having fun at Putsborough Sands, you may well get peckish. For those that are well prepared, why not bring a pic-nick down to the beach. Or if you don’t fancy the taste of sand covered sandwiches, the beach shop offers a wide range of freshly made lunches and afternoon snacks. Between April and October the beach shop is open everyday offering food, sun cream, surfboards and plenty of other beach equipment.

Throughout winter the shop opens every weekend so that dog walkers and very brave cold defying surfers can enjoy a nice snack after a visit to the beach.

Friendly doggies are welcome at Putsborough all year round, however during the summer months (April till the end of October) there will be a specific area of the beach for you to enjoy with your dogs.
