Description

Umberleigh Barton Farm is set in the beautiful Taw Valley, made famous by Henry Williamson's "Tarka the Otter" and nestles in 400 acres of the most stunning Devonshire countryside on the outskirts of Umberleigh. A delicious Devonshire cream tea awaits you on your first day! After this treat, you'll be glad to know there are many walks leading directly from the cottage and within the farm's boundary, including down to the river Taw itself where herons and kingfishers are often found on the waters edge, or take a stroll through the woodland and catch site of red deer. - information on walks is provided inside the cottage. You can also purchase a permit to fish on the river by prior arrangement.

The original farm dates back to the 9th century and two barns have been skilfully converted into high quality holiday accommodation, combining many original features with modern comforts. Meadow View and the adjacent Taw Valley Cottage (also sleeping up to 3) offer a peaceful and relaxing base and are ideal to book together for extended family and friends (a small discount applies if booking both together for July and August).

The nearby historic town of Barnstaple is just fifteen minutes drive away and a choice of stunning North Devon beaches are just a thirty minute drive away or perhaps you would prefer to head inland to beautiful Exmoor National Park.

An expanse of glass windows and doors brings the outside in, and the open plan living area features exposed stonework and vaulted oak beams. The contemporary furnishings are complemented by slate flooring and a cosy corner with comfy sofas has far reaching views over the surrounding hills and valleys. There is a single bedroom together with a stylish modern shower room on the ground floor and a staircase rises up to the galleried landing and the double bedroom where a unique window frames the panoramic countryside scene.
