Spend laid-back days discovering Dartmouth’s shops, pubs and eateries – there really is something to suit every taste in this historic riverside town. From the harbour, you can take a boat trip out to sea, arrange to go river kayaking and paddleboarding, or jump on a ferry across the river to Kingswear for a ride on the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway. For a different type of family fun, drive to Woodlands Family Theme Park (5 miles) where there’s plenty to entertain whatever the weather. Alternatively, stretch your legs with a walk along the South West Coast Path to Compass Cove (2 miles). For sandcastles and rock pooling, Sugary Cove (1.5 miles) and the award-winning Blackpool Sands (3.5 miles) come highly recommended.
