George's Den is a two bedroom apartment that has recently been created in a historic building dating back to the early 1800's at least, and throughout beautifully decorated with simple modern style and top quality fittings and furnishings. Your luxury accommodation is also situated in Dartmouth's Town Centre with parking and shopping conveniently to hand, including M&S Food plus the local artisan marketplace. From the South side you have sunshine all day and views to the River and historic buildings, whilst the North side overlooks historic Undercliffe and is comfortably cool in the summer. With this central location all of the shops and activities Dartmouth has to offer are quite literally only a stone's throw away.
George's Den and the other 2 bedroom apartment on the floor below, Dragon's Nest, are both created above the completely new George and Dragon Inn, the old pub has been restored and extended to create a unique blend of old and new and is now the latest foodie destination in Dartmouth. It also benefits from the only Beer garden in Town – perfect for dining al-fresco in the summer. George's Den and Dragon's Nest are accessed by their own front doors located in historic Undercliffe, which is the narrow street behind and what was originally the front of the George & Dragon, which has also now been beautifully restored, including the original ships timbers used as beams and the apartment window surrounds on the upper floors that are all original.
George's Den always feels warm and serene in winter and is delightfully cool in Summer helping you to sleep soundly as it is North Facing away from the heat of the sun all day, which can be important for our younger and more mature guests. A very comfortable home from home to relax, away from the crowd, yet close enough to be part of whatever events and happenings are going on in Dartmouth during your visit. Or indeed as the perfect base to simply relax or to explore the whole area, on foot, by car or by boat!
During Festivals and Events the George and Dragon below sometimes has live music in the Main Bar, or more likely in the Paved Beer Garden to the front, only good talented local musicians – no disco karaoke noise labelled as music allowed – ever at the G&D below and they are passionate about that! In George's Den you would hear any Live Music in the Main Bar below, but this always finishes by 11pm and is only very occasional (please ask), because we prefer to have our Live Music 'Al-fresco' in the Beer Garden, which is completely the other side of the building and you cannot hear it at all in Georges Den, even with the windows open! Although whenever there is Live Music of course you must feel free to join in – it is always free too!

This apartment can also be booked in conjunction with Dragon's Nest giving you the option for larger parties or family groups for example, to have 2 separate 2 double bedroom apartments (with additional Children's Cots available FOC), and all in the same building together.
George's Den is up one flight of stairs from the front entrance to the street (well Undercliffe – it is almost a street), inside you'll step into the central hallway, leading directly to all other areas of the apartment – the main Bedroom, the open=plan kitchen, dining area and lounge, plus the bathroom. There is an intercom phone that links directly to your front entrance door downstairs, handy for visitors, deliveries you may arrange, or in case someone goes out without a key of course. There is also a coat rack and a brilliantly designed Scandinavian style shoe dresser, plus a 'Dirty Shoe Box' for those that may go walking in the countryside or on the beach at low tide. Then there are three doors that lead off into the other areas of the apartment as follows.
The kitchen, dining and lounge space is one open plan area. The kitchen runs down one side of the room with units, worktop and cupboards over, including some attractive under-lighting. There is a family sized fridge, a built in fan-oven and state-of-the-art induction hob, washing machine and ample space to store essentials for the duration of your stay. Also available in the kitchen is a wine rack, microwave, toaster, kettle and coffee cafetiere. Plenty of spaces for a family of four, or for one or two couples as you wish. The dining area is next to the kitchen with a bench seat under the modern, highly efficient but Georgian styled sash window giving views along the historic Undercliff and Broadstone below. Then the natural wood and cream extendable dining table dining table and four chairs is in front of this to move and configure as suits your family – Children's Highchairs are also provided on request.
The lounge area is at the other end of the open plan space, with a large flat screen smart TV mounted to the wall; allow the extra room for seating the whole family. The seating provided comes in the form of two lovely plush, free standing armchairs and a matching two seater sofa, cosy up in winter or chill out in the summer.
There are two king size double bedrooms in this apartment, both are decorated to a simple modern style in neutral colours with natural wood and cream furniture to a high standard, each bedroom has the same king size bed, a dressing table & stool, chair and mirror, plus two matching bedside tables and lamps (got to be one each side!). In the larger bedroom there is also a Smart Samsung TV on the wall, a chest of drawers, a Double wardrobe plus a cute white wicker love heart basket for your jewellery bits and pieces. Also there is a wicker washing basket and wicker storage box and a tumble dryer. These modern bedrooms are both light and airy, with plenty of space, just far enough away from the river front that can be a bit busy and noisy in season, allowing you to sleep peacefully. Importantly ladies, there is also an adjustable full length mirror, most helpful for checking your outfits before leaving the apartment.
In the second bedroom, which leads off from the lounge area (so ideal if you have younger children to watch), there is a large built in double wardrobe and cupboard with handy drawers that also houses a selection of books and an iron. Next to the bed there is a bedside cabinet with a lamp, on the other side of the bed there is a built in recessed shelf which has a matching lamp, plus also a quality JBL sound system, just in case you fancied listening to something peaceful from your mp3 player before drifting off to sleep.
The large modern, luxury floor to ceiling tiled bathroom with the white tiles highlighted by the grey grout, is located on your right leading from the hallway. This bathrom comprises a white WC and suite including hand basin, comfy shaped bath with a wall mounted shower over and a glass screen. The hand basin has been built into the wall to allow easy access if you have children with you. Above the hand basin there is a magical vanity mirror, wave your hand below it and snazzy LED lights come alive. Next to the vanity mirror is a shaver point and there is also a free standing storage cupboard available to use plus a huge chrome heated towel rail for added luxury whenever you need it.
A car park permit is valid from April - September and entitles you to an unreserved space in Mayor's Avenue Car Park.
This property has a refundable Accidental Damage Deposit of £200, which is payable to Marsdens Devon Cottages with the final balance of your holiday, eight weeks prior to your arrival, and is refunded within 5 working days of your departure. Alternatively, you may wish to pay a non-refundable Accidental Damage Deposit Waiver equivalent to 10% of the Accidental Damage Deposit value, which covers you for the full value of the Accidental Damage Deposit, should any damage occur during your stay.
