This beautiful, luxury property is the perfect indulgence for up to four people. Ideally situated in the sought after village of Kingswear, on the banks of the River Dart, the views from ‘The Edge’ are out of this world. You can't get more waterside than this wonderful, sheltered and sunny haven where you can spend your day relaxing and watching life on the river.
Everything is on your doorstep and conveniently situated. It is a short walk to the characterful ‘Lower Ferry’ which takes you quickly to the bustling town of Dartmouth on the opposite side of the river, either on foot or by car. From there you can explore the many shops, visit the historic castle or embark on a scenic river trip. In Kingswear itself, there is a busy Marina, post office, local shop, café, two pubs and of course Kingswear station for the historic and scenic steam train journey to Paignton. The village is a 'Mecca' to the sailing community, with the River Dart being a superb natural harbour, accommodating several marinas and deep-water moorings and the village is the home of the Royal Dart Yacht Club, hosts of the annual Royal Regatta.
The property itself was architect designed with no expense spared to make the most of its fantastic riverside setting. Secreted away on the highly desirable Beacon Road, you enter ‘The Edge’ from the street via its cedar wood bifold doors. As you descend from first floor level via the gorgeous wooden spiral staircase, you will enjoy your first glimpse of Dartmouth Castle through the perfectly positioned staircase window.
Located on the ground floor the fully equipped modern, stylish kitchen has a Siemens electric oven and hob, built-in fridge and dishwasher, microwave, Dualit kettle and toaster.
In-between the kitchen and the lounge there is a dining area with bespoke benches suitable for four people to sit and relax whilst enjoying your meals and taking in the stunning river vista.
At the front, the living area has a two-seater sofa and a pair of relaxing chairs where you can sit and enjoy the spectacular views of the River Dart and Dartmouth. Should you ever tire of the views, entertainment is provided by a large wall-mounted flat screen Freeview TV. In the winter months, a log burner is available to help you snuggle in.
The Master-Suite on the first floor contains of a bespoke Super-King size bed with fitted wardrobes and drawers, plus a small wall-mounted flat-screen TV. The luxury en-suite bathroom has a large rainfall shower, W.C, washbasin, and heated towel rail. But best of all are the double patio sliding doors leading out onto the wrap-around glass and teak decked balcony for you to enjoy an exquisite view of the River Dart, Dartmouth Castle and the English Channel beyond, either whilst still lying in bed or from the two teak carver chairs.
Bedroom two is located on ground floor with a view of the outside garden. It also features a bespoke Super-King size bed, fitted wardrobes and drawers plus a small wall mounted flat screen TV. The beautiful and spacious en-suite bathroom has a large rainfall shower, luxurious marbled bath with a stylish mirrored panel, a large washbasin and a heated towel rail.
There are three bathrooms in total. Two en-suites and an additional cloakroom by the front door. All bathrooms are of exceptional quality .
On the ground floor there is well appointed and spacious W.C.
‘The Edge’ enjoys a high speed internet connection.
Step outside and the views get even better. From the large ground floor decked and glass balcony, perched literally on the edge, you can enjoy the incredible views of the river, Dartmouth Castle and out to sea. For your comfort and to make the most of those al-fresco moments, there is a teak dining table with seating, a teak bench with the perfect sea view and 2 teak sun loungers for those lazy moments.
In the garden area, there is an additional separate seating area to relax in with rattan sofa and matching chairs and coffee table.
A utility area is fitted in the garage with a double sink, additional fridge, freezer as well as a washing machine.
The garage itself can accommodate a medium sized car should you wish to use it during your stay. There is also free parking on Beacon Road, both directly outside ‘The Edge’ and further along the street.
NOTE: This stunning property is located near a cliff edge so children must be supervised at all times. Additionally, please stick to the safe clearly identifiable terraced/paved/chipped areas of the garden at all times.
This property has a refundable Accidental Damage Deposit of £350, which is payable to Original Cottages with the final balance of your holiday, eight weeks prior to your arrival, and is refunded within 5 working days of your departure. Alternatively, you may wish to pay a non-refundable Accidental Damage Deposit Waiver equivalent to 10% of the Accidental Damage Deposit value, which covers you for the full value of the Accidental Damage Deposit, should any damage occur during your stay.
Ideal location overlooking river dart and close walk to passenger ferry to Dartmouth
The Edge was fantastic for us and would definitely come back. We are a couple with a 4 year old child. The access to the property down Brecon Road is very tight and the garage will only fit a smallish family car, we had a Mini Countryman Mk1 which was OK, anything bigger wouldn't fit the garage although wider, low cars could negotiate the access road they may be too long for the garage. Parking is available at the marina for £8 per 24 hours so factor this in. The property itself is fantastic, handy for the ferry and the station and lovely views over the river up to the castle. It faces south west so gets plenty of sun. The bedrooms and bathrooms are a great size and well fitted out. The kitchen and dining area do the job but above all it's the terraces/balconies that make the property....the views are amazing and ever changing. We couldn't fault the cleanliness. The only issue we had was the button that closes the garage door which is on the inside would not work when you leant in after extracting your car as the sensor wouldn't allow it to come down despite what is said in the property instructions. Therefore we had to close the door from the inside, walk downstairs and through the property and the gate, onto the road and up to the car - luckily the road is very quiet so blocking it for 2 minutes wasn't a problem.
Amazing location, lovely river and sea views.
Everything about The Edge is superb, especially the mesmerizing view from the glass balconies! There is always something happening on the water to catch your eye as the fishing boats, gigs and visiting yachts glide past. Being on the Kingswear side of the river offers the best of both worlds, with easy access to Dartmouth via the passenger or car ferry just a step away plus glorious sunshine from day break right up until sunset. The property itself is smart, clean and well thought out, with lots of storage space and little touches of luxury wherever you look. You can get lost in Dartmouth all day, wandering around the picturesque streets and garden, browsing in the independent shops or watching the buzz of activity on the water from the long, open embankment. The riverboats and steam engine were not running during our stay because of Covid restrictions, so we embarked instead on some incredible coastal path walks around Dartmouth with glorious panoramic views of the rugged coastline. But we also couldn't resist spending a whole day at The Edge just relaxing, having lunch on the balcony and enjoying everything it has to offer. We loved our time there and have already booked again!
