Our Ideal For schemes, showcase owners who wish to ensure that their properties have the additional facilities that may make their guests holiday that bit more enjoyable and carefree. The selection criteria for each Ideal Welcome offer has been given careful thought, we hope it works for you.

Ideal for Families

A self-catering holiday can be very appealing to families with children as they offer greater flexibility;  with no set meal times, private outdoor space, a home from home, less stressful than a hotel for families with very young children, no banging doors late at night or loud conversations outside your door.

Apart from which, the UK offers so much for families, great beaches and coastline, familiar food for your “faddy eaters”, award winning attractions, cycle routes and quiet lanes and so much more….

Our Ideal for Families properties are easily identified by our Ideal for Families logo.
Not only have they been graded through our Quality Assessment Scheme, we have added additional criteria to ensure that you have the extra facilities that may enable you to leave some child equipment at home in the knowledge that your self-catering holiday property will provide most of the essential equipment you may need. 

Core Criteria

Cupboard locks, covered electrical sockets and plug in night lights. Cot, highchair or chair seat, fire guard and stair gate where applicable, window cords, securely fastened with a break facility .   

Facilities you can expect to find in an Ideal for Families holiday property are:

  • Child friendly crockery, cutlery and seating suitable for indoors and outdoors.
  • Window blinds with looped cords, suitable beds and supportive seating.
  • Washing machine and drying facilities, thermostats on showers and first aid kit.
  • Information on local children's attractions, possibly listed by age range, family friendly restaurants, pubs and cafes, local doctors, dentists, nearest A&E or NHS walk in centre.
  • A selection of books and games for a variety of age ranges.
  • Restrictors on opening windows, blind cords will be securely fastened with a break facility.        

Ideal for Pets

The UK is a nation of pet lovers and we love to take our pooch’s on holiday with us. 
At Original Cottages we love pets too and with 50% of our properties accepting  dogs you really are spoilt for choice.

Our Ideal for Dogs properties are easily identified by our Ideal for Dogs logo.
All of our Ideal for Dogs properties have been assessed  through our Quality Assessment Scheme; we have added additional criteria to ensure your dog’s holiday is as good as yours.

You can book with confidence knowing that your Ideal for Dogs property has been assessed for all of the family!

Facilities you can expect to find in an Ideal for Walkers holiday property are:

  • Poop scoop & bags - even better if they are biodegradable
  • Spare lead, doggie treats, doggie blanket, doggie bed, doggie towel & doggie spoon or fork for doggie food
  • Outside tap or bucket 
  • Enclosed, hazard free garden, lockable gates, wired it necessary 
  • Doggie walks, dog friendly cafes, restaurants, pubs, attractions 
  • Details for nearest vets with telephone numbers, opening times & closest pet food shop with post code
  • Friendly house rules
