Gladstone is an attractive Grade II colonial style character house located in the historic part of Braunton, opposite the picturesque Parish Church and next to one of the local village pubs. It is reputed that Prime Minister William Gladstone stayed in the property whilst visiting relatives.
The ground floor of the house is mainly open plan with the front door opening into the attractively furnished living/dining /kitchen room. Guests can relax on the comfy seating in front of the ornate fireplace and admire the historic church architecture through the bay window. During cooler seasons cosy evenings can be enjoyed beside the log burner. The dining area is separated by comfortable sofas and to the rear is the kitchen area complete with Rangemaster stove and wooden work surfaces. There is also a small utility room. From the kitchen, through low lintel doorway, is a separate handy wet room with slate floor and Italian marble wall tiles.
Stairs lead up to the landing where two of the bedrooms are located, the double across the unique bridge walkway and the king with ensuite shower room at the front of the house. Please note there is no access to the balcony which is for ornate purposes only. From the landing behind the door are further steep stairs which go up to the second floor (fixed stairgate in place at top of stairs). Here you will find the snug room with low ceiling, painted floorboards, sofa, Freesat TV and velux window. Leading off the snug room are the bathroom (low threshold and ceiling and with prominent low beams) and third bedroom with twin beds. All bedrooms have wooden flooring.
After returning from a fun filled day in the surf and sand or exploring the local countryside, guests can choose to relax outside at the table and chairs on the front porch under the veranda, or alternatively in the rear courtyard room with its raised gravel terrace and bench seating. If you are in search of refreshment the Black Horse traditional pub is next door and you can stretch your legs through the church yard adjacent to the picturesque River Caen.
The village centre is accessible via the nearby, level Tarka Trail cycle path and in under ten minutes you can walk to a great selection of individual shops, family-friendly cafes and restaurants. Just a short car journey away are the magnificent sandy, surfing beaches of Saunton and Croyde whilst slightly further afield are Woolacombe Bay, the harbour side at Ilfracombe and Exmoor National Park, all offering memorable days out.
Accommodation: Ground Floor: Open plan kitchen/living/dining room with Freesat smart TV, DVD and wood burning stove. Kitchen area with dual-fuel Rangemaster stove - 5 ring gas hob, electric double oven, fridge with ice box, microwave, dishwasher. Utility room with small freezer, washing machine. Wet room with walk-in shower, wash basin and WC.
First Floor. Landing with access to Bedroom 1 with King and ensuite shower room with WC and basin. Walkway to Bedroom 2 with Double.
Second Floor. Stairs (with stairgate at top) to snug room with sofa and Freesat TV. Bedroom 3 with Twin. Bathroom with narrow slipper bath, basin and WC (restricted height over bath and WC due to eaves).
Note: on the second floor height clearance is approx 6ft and lower in the snug, bedroom 3 and bathroom.

Some out-house storage for surfboards. A parking permit is provided for one space in pub car park 500m away and on street parking may also be available.
