Description

This characterful stone built extended Devon Long House was originally built in the early part of the 16th century with gas central heating and a fireplace, it is a delightful getaway any time of year.  It is located in the village of Combe Martin and just a few minutes’ drive from the beach.  The property can be found near to the top end of the village with a good choice of shops, pubs and restaurants running parallel on either side of the main High Street as it meanders its way down the hill to the sea.

Making your way from the shingle parking area and through the gate you are led into the handy utility room.  This ideal space is great for storing coats, shoes and wiping muddy paws.  Laundry facilities with a washer and separate drier are housed here as well as an additional larder fridge.  From the moment you enter Tythe Barn House you will be enticed by its charm and appreciate the sympathetic way the owners have lovingly restored the property retaining original beams and exposing stone walls, whilst creating a warm and welcoming home away from home.  Throughout are quality fixtures and fittings, from Miele and Bosch appliances, to Eygptian cotton bed linen. The well-equipped galley style kitchen has cream units, wooden work tops, dishwasher and plenty of natural light making this a pleasant environment in which to prepare a delicious meal.  It is also a great social space as part of the kitchen accommodates a table and 6 chairs for breakfast or informal snacks whilst a further separate dining room is available. The kitchen area incorporates a small sofa in a cosy nook backed by a pretty stain glass window. A good selection of cookery books is also conveniently at hand.  Moving through, the comfortable living room is such an inviting social space in which to relax, chat, watch TV or simply enjoy the delights of an open fire.  This homely, cottage style room oozes character whilst benefitting from 3 leaded windows, a selection of comfy seating and soft lighting.  Separated from the living room by an exposed stone archway the dining room easily accommodates 6 around the table for those enjoyable meals with family and friends.  There is even a handy serving hatch through to the kitchen.  The shelving unit provides a selection of books and games.  Access to the parking area is also available from this room via a 2nd external doorway and porch.

Carpeted stairs with handrail lead up to 3 bedrooms, shower room, family bathroom and separate WC on the first floor.  Bedroom one is a character king with exposed stone walls, freeview TV, wardrobe, glass topped dressing table, chest of drawers and large mirror.  Dual aspect front and side views can be enjoyed from leaded windows which are dressed with curtains and blinds.  Bedroom 2 is a double, with additional single bed, matching furniture, washbasin and sloping ceiling to leaded window with views out to the surrounding countryside.  Bedroom 3 is a double also with matching furniture and leaded window from which to enjoy the view.  A modern shower room has spacious walk-in shower with digital controls, full length glass screen, heated towel rail, WC and basin. A family bathroom has a shower over the smaller size bath, glass shower screen, WC and large basin.  There is also a further separate WC with basin. Night time motion sensor lights are fitted upstairs on the landing.

Outside is a small, enclosed courtyard secure for pets, with patio set seating 2.  An additional larger enclosed seating area is to the left of the driveway with table and seating for 6 with parasol and barbecue area for disposable barbecues.  The secluded, sun trap garden area is surrounded by raised flower borders and enjoys fine views of the surrounding countryside.  The shed contains a couple of sun loungers, fire pit, picnic basket, ice box and outdoor games for visitors to make use of.

Tythe Barn House makes an ideal holiday home for family or friends with space enough for everyone whilst offering a warm, comfortable and welcoming atmosphere.  Within walking distance of family and pet friendly pubs and restaurants and a few minutes’ drive from the sandy/shingle beach. 

The popular Victorian seaside town of Ilfracombe is a short drive away or if you wish to explore further afield then the delights of Exmoor National Park are within a twenty minutes’ drive.  Here you can discover quaint hamlets and picturesque villages or enjoy stretching your legs along one of the many designated paths, then perhaps reward yourself with a delicious Devon cream tea!

Utility room with larder fridge, washing machine and separate tumble dryer. Stairs up to first floor: Bedroom 1 with King, TV and dual aspect views. Bedroom 2 with double and single, sloping ceiling and beams. Bedroom 3 with double and views over surrounding countryside.  Shower room with walk-in shower, digital controls, shaver socket, heated towel rail, WC and basin. Family bathroom with shower over smaller size bath and large wash basin. Separate WC and basin.
