Shaldon, Teignmouth and Dawlish Cottages
Shaldon is a hidden treasure which sits on the River Teign estuary with views across to the seaside town of Teignmouth and out to sea. This charming unspoilt village has stylish café’s and restaurants and pubs all within a short walk of the town centre.
The main beach is scattered with boats moored at low tide creating a picture-perfect postcard. A short walk from the main town is Ness Cove beach which is accessed through a smugglers tunnel that carves through the red sandstone cliffs. Up the hill is Shaldon Zoo, home to some of the worlds most endangered animals.
Linked to Shaldon and Torbay by bridge, Teignmouth is a Victorian seaside town with plenty of attractions to keep the whole family entertained. The town’s seafront is dominated by a Georgian Terrace which overlooks the green and the long, main sandy beach. On a good day you can see the Jurassic coast of Dorset over 40 miles away to the East. Teignmouth is a child’s paradise, with a large play park and Lido on the green adjoining the beach and also a skate park for the older kids.
Further along the coast is the very traditional seaside town of Dawlish. Families love this Devon town, with its golden beaches and rock pools all within a short walk from the town centre.
Just outside the town is Dawlish Warren, which sits on a long sand bar and surrounded by a nature reserve and popular golf course. There are amazing views across to Exmouth on the other side of the River Exe and out to sea. From Dawlish Warren you can pick up the National cycle route and cycle alongside the River Exe into the city Exeter, 11 miles away.
