Maypool Cottage is right on the edge of a lake and has fabulous water views across the to the river Dart.  Just half a mile upstream from Dartmouth, the property has plenty of outdoor seating with stylish wooden loungers on the lawn and table and chairs for alfresco dining.

There's a second reception room on the ground floor, a spacious kitchen dining area which also has access onto the garden. The very useful boot room/utility is a good space for keeping wellies and for drying off a damp dog!

This lovely holiday cottage is close to Greenways, former home of novelist, Agatha Christie and now under ownership of the National Trust. The only traffic you're likely to hear are the ferries which motor up and down the river and the steam train which chugs  down to Kingswear. The Dart is one of the most unspoilt estuaries in the country and Maypool Cottages is in the perfect position to make the most of the seclusion.

This now takes the steam train between Kingswear and Paignton, leading back around to the banks of the river.

Reviews

Outstanding in every way. March 2019

Past Customer,

Maypool Cottage is a wow location. With the Maypool, (freshwater, small lake) in front of the house and with your own walk around the Maypool. Daily you can watch swans, Canada geese, wild fowl, and all manner of birds and wildlife on your doorstep. The River Dart is also next to the cottage with views towards Dartmouth itself. You have to know that the house is a ferry crossing to Dartmouth being on the opposite side (ie Paignton) and down a long and winding road/track with no shops/pubs/restaurants in walking distance. For us, that was a plus as the waterside location is stunning. The local steam train passes now and then during the day and is a treat to see. The house is large and well appointed and the table tennis a bonus for family fun. We wanted for nothing during our stay and felt very comfortable, but if you're looking for state-of-the-art, stylish rooms and bathrooms this place is not for you. The caretakers were helpful and informative. We did the steam train/river cruise which is well worth the money. Our family trip with dog was everything we hoped and we'd like to return to Maypool Cottage one day. February 2019

Past Customer,

What a wonderful, tranquil, beautiful and truly relaxing place. We all had a very welcome break from our busy city lives to spend a fabulous week recharging our batteries. The house is perfect, the views amazing and location the stuff of fairy tales. I would highly recommend a stay here. Thanks January 2019

Past Customer,

What a beautiful house and surroundings. This is a perfect location for a family gathering. We rented it over the Christmas period and viewed the magical Paignton to Kings Weir Christmas steam train across the viaduct close to the house, and twinkling through the trees. The downstairs interior is large, with plenty of separated areas. The kitchen is large with plenty of oven space. We had a fabulous time. The housekeeper lives next door and was always quick to respond to small matters. December 2018

Past Customer,

What a spot, we defy anyone not to have a great time here. October 2018

We had a wonderful time staying here with my family and in laws and we couldn't believe how beautiful the location was! Really relaxing and tranquil. We had everything we would need in the house and it was well located for day trips and scenic walks. Would highly recommend! October 2018

Past Customer,

We had a fantastic week at what can only be described as an exceptional property, The house was wonderful and spacious with great facilities, but above all the location is wonderful. Sat on the river dart in its own beautiful grounds that includes a lake that sits next to the house. Location, location location! September 2018

Past Customer,

A lovely place for a family holiday, we hope to go back.

Mrs Pamela Hunt,

Had a lovely christmas week in Maypool Cottage. Superb location, loved being serenaded by the wildfowl during the day and the spooky seals at dusk.Had sun, torrential rain, a real thunderstorm, but managed to get in some lovely local walks. Home was very stunning and warm, especially with the log burner even though it got cold outside. Thanks so much!

Curtis,

A beautiful property in a wonderful location..peace and tranquility abounds, only broken by the occasional steam train going over the viaduct..woodland walking straight from the door..what could be better than watching boats coming and going on the river Dart while listening to the verious bird songs...

Mrs Sheila MacDonald,

A wonderful week in the most beautiful location, shear perfection.
