A short drive away is Slapton - visit the wonderful nature reserve around the freshwater ley with board walk and lovely picnic area. This is an excellent spot for birdwatching with bird hides where recent bird sightings are noted. Historical Dartmouth is nearby with its ancient winding streets and classic inner harbour, it's steeped in maritime history. Inland you'll find the ancient market town of Totnes and chic Salcombe – a popular yachting destination and former fruit port with its narrow streets and fashionable outfitters.
