Bay Surf Shop

Surf shops and shacks are ten a penny all over North Devon, particularly in Woolacombe, but very few operate such an open-door policy for paw traffic as the Bay Surf Shop. The owner here has a Labrador called Rosco and loves his dogs, and the lads who work here keep a water bowl out the front at all times, along with a box of doggy snacks strategically placed under the board-waxing counter.

The shop sells and rents out boards, wetsuits and surfing paraphernalia to the thousands of people who flock here to Woolacombe each year to take advantage of one of Britain's best shore breaks. Check the Bay Surf Shop's website for up-to-date surf conditions, and when you get here pop in and say hello to the most knowledgeable crew in the hood (ask for Dig Hastilow if in doubt). If you need a coffee to warm your belly before braving the waves, right next door is what could arguably be Devon's most dog-friendly little café, the Puffin Cafe, which attracts the custom of all the local dog walkers because of its owners' super generous attitude towards salty surf dogs. This is the largest surf shop in the area, owned and staffed by surfers for surfers (particularly, er, dog-owning surfers).
