Bude Canal Towpath
Start & Finish: The Weir Bistro & Wildlife Centre
Starting at the Weir Lakeside Café, just off the A39, this 4.5-mile loop takes you alongside the Bude Canal and nature reserve, and out to the golden beaches of North Cornwall. While many of Bude’s central beaches operate dog bans in the summer months, this is a peaceful, dog-friendly alternative, taking you through interesting and diverse scenery.
Join the canal towpath just beyond the café’s fishing lake, and follow the level route all the way to the wharf and sea lock at Bude – one of only two sea locks in the country. Cross the River Neet for the return leg, which takes you alongside the Marshes Nature Reserve, home to a variety of birdlife, including herons and egrets, and where – if you’re lucky – you may spot the odd otter. Being such an easy walk, this is also ideal for buggies and young children on bikes, but above all it’s the perfect length to wear out your insatiable hound.
Length: 4.5 mile, circular walk
