Centrally positioned, right in the heart of the picturesque village of Mortehoe, the Chichester Arms is a classic country pub, which offers a warm welcome to both humans and hounds. A large number of dog owners flock to this part of the world on holiday, to take advantage of the myriad tracks and trails that cross dramatic clifftops and lead to dog-friendly world-class beaches, and Mortehoe sits pretty in between two of the best: Rockham Bay for those who like a wilder walk and a more remote beach, and Woolacombe Sands for those who prefer to drive and park at the beach and then have a wide expanse of sand to explore.
The Chichester is the perfect place for a post-walk wind-down beer for the bipeds and a bowl of water for their four-legged companions. The surroundings are unpretentious but very comfortable and hospitable, and if you want to stay longer, the food offering is excellent. There's a wood burner to huddle around if the elements have been unkind, and a compact little beer garden out the front of the pub for seeing the sun down on summer days.
