Dog-Friendly Festivals and Events

It’s likely that Devon and Cornwall and their multifarious attractions will be more than enough to keep you and your pooch occupied on your holiday. But there are a number of annual festivals and events that are worth taking time out to attend – some of which are even worth basing a trip around. Check out our selection of some of the best.

North Devon and Exmoor Walking Festival

Dates: Over the May Day Bank Holiday period.

The North Devon and Exmoor Spring Walking Festival features an entire programme of walks dedicated entirely to people walking with their dogs. Overall there are 36 guided walks on offer, ranging from short strolls to full day excursions, and 20 of these are suitable for human hikers and their hounds (providing, of course, that both the people and their pooches are well-behaved and fit enough for the route in question). The festival starts in the Ilfracombe area, exploring that corner of Devon for two days before moving on to Lynton for another two days. It then moves on to Porlock for 2 days and finally to Dunster for the last three days over the May Day Bank holiday. Walks all either follow a thematic route – for example 'Explore the Torrs', 'Lorna Doone Country' and 'Victorian Entrepreneurs and Explorers' - or explore a specific spot, such as 'Hidden Bays, Rocky Valley & Barton'. The cost of participation ranges from free to £8.
