Strictly speaking part of Woolacombe Sands, located at its far southern end, Putsborough offers a gorgeous, golden beach for dogs and people to race along to their hearts’ content. There is a generously sized car park right by the beach, with easy access from Croyde or Woolacombe via Georgeham.
A popular hangout for wet-suited surfers, this beach boasts a lively break that brave dogs might venture out into, but even non-swimming hounds will enjoy chasing frisbees and sticks across this seemingly endless sea-fronting desert. Once you've had your fill of sand, explore the dunescape right behind the beach, where myriad paths link together and lead to various trails, including sections of the South West Coastal Path, providing access to dog-friendly National Trust terrain such as Baggy Point.
If you work up a thirst or earn yourself a hunger, tucked into the dunes by the car park you'll find the friendly Putsborough Shop and Café, which welcomes dogs inside and out, and has a comprehensive offering of hot and cold drinks, ice creams and classic British seaside paraphernalia. Water bowls are provided for thirsty dogs.
Beach type: Sand
Dog information: Large year-round off-lead area. Small on-lead area around far south of beach.
