The contemporary colour palette continues into the kitchen, where there are all the self-catering must-haves plus a dining suite and door to the garden. A cottage-style staircase leads to two bedrooms, each enjoying river views' one is a double, the second has twin beds, and there are two bathrooms on the first floor for the ultimate in convenience. Lynmouth is an idyllic destination with a fine selection of inns, tearooms, shops and restaurants leading to its historic harbour. Perched high above is the Victorian resort of Lynton and the two are connected by the water-powered Cliff Railway – enjoy stunning views of the coastline as you glide up and down the track, or for more scenic thrills, head to the nearby Valley of the Rocks, where the cliffs are some of the highest in Britain. If you’d prefer to explore on foot, both the Tarka Trail and South West Coast Path run through Lynmouth, or you could follow the Lyn River upstream to the former fishing lodge of Watersmeet House. Woolacombe Beach, 21 miles away, is a vast stretch of golden sands while Ilfracombe – fast-gaining a reputation as a cultural and culinary centre – is less than 20 miles.
