National Cheese Awards commend North Devon farm
The West Country is renowned for having some of the best food and drink produce in the whole of the UK, and there is now yet another reason for cuisine connoisseurs to book a stay at one of the many fine holiday cottages in Devon.
Parkham Farms, based near the town of Bideford in North Devon, has just swept the board at the 2012 National Cheese Awards, winning an extraordinary 13 prizes, including the J Sainsbury’s Trophy for Excellence in Cheesemaking.
The ceremony was held at the Bath and West Show on May 30th, with the company’s success marking what has been a period of significant expansion.
Director Peter Willes explained that the last eighteen months has not all been easy, however, with his father – who was a renowned expert in the field and helped develop Parkham Farms’ distinctive flavours – passing away last March.
Despite this, staff at the company decided to press ahead with a planned increase in production, which has led to even more people discovering the delicious taste and texture of this quality cheese produced deep in the Devon countryside.
