Tucked away amongst the narrow colourful streets of the pretty fishing village of Appledore, you will find the charming former fisherman’s cottage of Master Mariner. With sea views and a homely welcoming feel, this traditional abode is the perfect place for a romantic escape by the sea and an ideal base from which to explore the delights of the North Devon coast.
Start the day with some toasted croissants and a freshly brewed coffee in the upstairs snug which offers wonderful views overlooking the estuary and out to sea. Both this cosy room and the bedroom are reached via a steep set of open-tread stairs. The ground floor is home to a lounge and dining area whose characterful exposed beams and wood burning stove give a rustic background to the room’s contemporary colour scheme.
Step outside the front door and walk the quarter-mile down to the beach at low tide. Take the car down to the quayside where you can browse amongst the little shops, have a drink in one of the friendly pubs or even hop aboard the ferry to Instow. The promenade forms part of the South West Coast Path which also runs alongside Northam Burrows Country Park 3 miles away at Westwood Ho! Day trips out include The BIG Sheep, 5 miles away at Abbotsham, and the gorgeous seaside town of Ilfracombe, 23 miles away.
