Fabulous for couples or families, and welcoming dogs, too, this rural retreat is an ideal place in which to relax and recharge, feeling like a home-from-home the moment you step inside. It’s surrounded by the beautiful countryside of North Devon and within easy reach of the beaches and amenities of popular Bude.
On the ground floor of this cosy cottage, the farmhouse-style kitchen/diner is perfect for sociable mealtimes, and then you can snuggle up in the welcoming lounge with its Smart TV and board games. When it’s time to turn in, head upstairs to the bedrooms, an elegant double and a bunk bedroom for two. On this floor, you’ll also find the family bathroom. Across the farmyard, there’s a private seating area where you can relax and drink in the gorgeous views and, if you arrange with the owner in advance, you may also visit their working farm and meet the sheep, cows, pigs and pygmy goats. With the required permit and the right weather conditions, you may also fish on the owner’s stretch of the River Tamar, two fields away.
Enjoy a wander around historic Holsworthy, only 5 miles away, where you’ll find a variety of small shops clustered around the town square, with several pubs, cafes and tearooms nearby. Don’t forget the pannier market every Wednesday. For swimming, sunbathing, sandcastle building and water sports, head to Bude or Widemouth Bay, both 8.5 miles. In Bude, there are plenty of shops, galleries and restaurants, too, while children (and perhaps adults) will enjoy launching themselves down The Monster Slip and Slide (summer only), 7 miles. Walkers can join the South West Coast Path at various points and enjoy wide-open views of the Atlantic and sometimes challenging routes along high cliffs.
