Deep within Dartmoor National Park is a quirky single-level former meeting hall, that was once the local HQ for the Women’s Institute (WI). This property is layered in 20th century-style elegance, surrounded by rocky terrain and preserved woodland. In the cosy hamlet of Haytor Vale, just 10 miles away from Newton Abbot, you could enjoy exploring both historic market towns and whimsical waterfalls within the diverse habitats of Devon.

The exterior of this welcoming holiday home belies the true size of its interior. Its picture-perfect appearance evokes thoughts of a quaint village life, yet the inside is reminiscent of a dolls house. In fact, there is a dolls house in the open-plan living area where you can relax and dine after a long day walking the trails and lanes of Dartmoor. The galley-style kitchen can be put to work when you conjure up some tasty meals concocted from Devonshire produce before unfurling in front of the TV and wood burner-effect electric fire. Retire to cosy beds after planning more adventures in the vast open moors.

Don’t miss the chance to hike through one of the best national parks in the UK. This property is only 3 miles from Becky Falls which is at the heart of Dartmoor - a photographer’s dream. For an equally special experience, the Bronze-Age Merrivale Monuments are a must-see on a foggy morning, 16 miles from the property. This area is steeped in historic wonder and spectacular nature, so take advantage of both without ever having to leave the boundaries of the park.

Haytor Vale is an attractive, quiet hamlet just a few minutes walk off the moor itself. Haytor Vale Lodge has everything you could need, and there are nice little touches, such as dog treats, bowls, and blankets for your use. The Lodge is comfortable and spacious, and the beds are comfortable too. The garden is lovely, and safely enclosed for dogs.Read more Our hound loved it, and made himself at home straight away. This holiday home is beautiful, and had everything we could possibly need for a great holiday. Liz, the owner, was really helpful and the scones on arrival were perfect. Great week, and we will return and recommend to others.

Haytor Vale Lodge is a home from home! I have visited the Lodge many times with my parents but this was the first time visiting with my partner and Hugo the French Bulldog! It is in the heart of Dartmoor, and despite visiting in the winter this time (February) it was a warm and welcoming stay with easy access to the tors, the Jurassic coast (approxRead more 2 hours away), Brixham, Totnes and Cockington. This is a really lovely place, comfy and cosy but also a bit quirky as an old WI hall. The fittings and equipment are all top quality and everything clean and in great condition. Magical fairy lights along the beams are the final touch. It's the perfect place to return to after a long hike.
