This superbly renovated property in Appledore is a great base for a holiday in beautiful North Devon. Guests can either take a day-trip or simply enjoy what Appledore has to offer.

One of Appledore’s oldest properties, this charming cottage has been lovingly updated to offer a delightful blend of period features and contemporary flair. Warm up beside the roaring wood burner, cook up a storm in the bespoke kitchen, dine alfresco in the garden or enjoy a lazy morning in bed beneath exposed beams. If you can drag yourselves away, stroll the cobbled streets of Appledore, browsing its quaint cafes, galleries and shops along the way.

Prepare delicious family meals in the bespoke galley kitchen, which, together with the sunny dining room next door, opens onto the garden. For those rainy afternoons and chilly evenings, gather around the wood burner that sits within a large inglenook fireplace in the lounge to enjoy a board game or film. When the sun is shining, head outside to make the most of the large walled garden, which includes a sunny dining spot, lawn area and romantic courtyard.

Located at the meeting point between the rivers Torridge and Taw, Appledore is a picturesque fishing village with an extensive maritime history. Quaint fisherman’s cottages line narrow streets and charming independent shops, cafes, restaurants and galleries offer plenty of choice for enjoying a bite to eat or finding mementoes to take home. Once you have finished exploring Appledore itself, follow the coastline to neighbouring Westward Ho! (3 miles), pay a visit to the market towns of Bideford (3 miles) and Barnstaple (11 miles) or enjoy a family day out at The BIG Sheep (4 miles).

A great location in the centre of Appledore. Great coffee shops, pubs and a fabulous deli near by. We caught the boat over to Instow which was fun. Lots of crabbing opportunities and a small play park near by. It was useful to be able to get into the property a bit earlier than stated. We all had ample space in the accommodation (7 adults and a dogRead more and a baby). Kitchen utensils were a bit limited. Only 4 wine glasses and no cafetire if you like proper coffee. The decor is a bit tired. Hide

A clean and comfortable house in a very good central position. Cracking inglenook fireplace with efficient log burner, but you will need to provide your own logs and kindling. We had an issue with the central heating but Steve from the house management sorted it out quickly and very efficiently, so guests are well supported and looked after.

We loved our stay at Docton House. A really comfortable cottage, great character and history. Brilliant location. Well equipped for us all. The garden space was great as was the small courtyard. Definitely a quirky entrance!

No welcome pack, no guest book or instructions. No local contact. Tired furnishings and grubby decor. After many other bookings in the area, we were very disappointed with what could be a lovely place
