The idyllic village of Appledore is famous for its colourful fishermen’s cottages and narrow streets, and for its shipbuilding heritage, which is explored in the village’s North Devon Maritime Museum. Within a couple of miles of the village are the Northam Burrows Country Park and the popular Victorian seaside resort of Westward Ho! with its miles of sandy beach. You can also catch a foot ferry to visit the pretty town of Instow, or take a boat trip from Bideford to the glorious island of Lundy.
