This gorgeous Grade II listed property is more than just a former fisherman's cottage – it's a home, crafted with seaside style and lavish love. The wide, sandy beach at Westward Ho!, the Royal North Devon Golf Club and the wild paradise of Northam Burrows are just over a mile away, and you're a few twisting lanes from the terrific North Devon Maritime Museum. Tame turquoise breakers at the Surf School, and savour the fruits of the sea in the sublime pubs and restaurants of Appledore, Bideford (4 miles) and Instow (6 miles); there's a seasonal ferry to the latter from April to October.

The cottage's interior is a blissful blend of old and new, showcasing its vibrant history. The lounge has wonderful exposed beams, a stone hearth with woodburner, and a sweet nautical feel in its fabrics, furnishings and artworks. Niches and archways offer seductive lamplit views from one space to another. The wide, commodious kitchen is sleek and stylish, with plenty of storage. After thrilling days of maritime adventure and local lobster, sink into a steaming slipper bath and the bedrooms' soft embrace, as lights twinkle across the sands. Wake to bracing river and estuarine views, and the promise of undiscovered treasures. Unwind on the patio and raised lawn, and imbibe the stunning views out to sea.

Exploring this exceptional coastline is sheer joy. Discover the cobbled, cliffside magic of Clovelly (14 miles), or build golden castles at Saunton (18 miles), Croyde (22 miles) and Ilfracombe (24 miles). Walk the South West Coast Path and revel in the rugged Hartland Peninsular (17 miles), with its lighthouse, abbey and quay. Cycle the Tarka Trail from Instow and feel the freedom of this miraculous landscape.

Lovely cottage. Beautiful setting. Weather dependent it is lovely to watch the comings and goings on the estuary from the bottom of the garden. Beds comfortable. Plenty of towels etc. ideally placed for short walk to dog friendly inns (The Beaver and the Royal George) which both do good food. We enjoyed being able to walk to the village centre and Read morealso found the Burrows a great place to walk. Being somewhat aged with dodgy knees did find sitting room furniture quite low to get out of! Hide

Another great stay in the very comfortable and well equipped Seabirds. Weather very good and able to make good use of the garden and the amazing views. Eating out first class as always - we recommend The Royal George, The Beaver, and The Flame Factory as well as the deli at Johns of Appledore for treats.

Prime location in Appledore with garden overlooking the water and out to sea. Good pubs and takeaways within an easy walk of the cottage. Can highly recommend the Seagate Hotel and the Royal George.

A lovely comfortable cottage in a unique setting on the estuary. Well set out with everything you needed for a relaxing stay. Sitting in the garden watching what is going on on the water just doing nothing is so relaxing with a short walk to the village centre and the pubs makes its such an ideal location.

A lovely, well planned cottage in a delightful village. Interesting history and lots of pretty streets to walk through. The garden was particularly good and watching the changing tides from the garden wall was fascinating.

Another very enjoyable stay at Seabirds, even in January there is plenty to keep you occupied. The cottage takes on a different personality in the winter time, the log burner ensures a cosy retreat from the inclement weather.
