If being on a smallholding surrounded by animals is your idea of a dream holiday, then the enchantingly-named Dipple Dairy Cottage should certainly be on your bucket list. You can have a fantastic holiday without ever needing to jump in the car as there’s a local shop and pub just under 4 miles away as well as delightful on-site activities. This grade II listed barn has fishing, a vegetable garden and pretty orchard in which to take a gentle afternoon stroll - it’s the perfect romantic escape.
The barn, adjacent to the owner’s farmhouse, is full of character with exposed beams and original stonework peeking out from amongst muted tones. A warming log burner in its own inglenook fireplace is just the spot for relaxing with some toasted crumpets and a pot of tea on a chilly winter’s day. During warmer seasons, head to the vegetable garden and polytunnel where you can pick your own fresh salads and vegetables to enjoy with a BBQ on the patio.
If 27 acres of farmland to explore isn’t enough, head down to Bude, 12 miles away, where you can relax on the beautiful golden beaches. Summerleaze Beach has its own semi-natural tidal pool which is great for swimming and paddle boarding or you could head into the centre to have a look around the shops and have a bite to eat. For a fun day out, visit the donkeys in the cliffside village of Clovelly and have an adventure at The Milky Way Adventure Park, just an 8-mile drive from the cottage.
