There's a summer ferry from Instow to pretty Appledore, or journey onwards to the surrounding areas of North Devon, where surfers flock to world-class beaches and families are drawn to the historic market towns, cobbled village lanes, and cliff-top nature trails.

This bright and airy home reflects the big skies, marine tones and coastal hues of Instow's shores throughout the decor, while the Juliette balcony upstairs boasts spectacular seaside views. After a day of exploring, you'll want to kick off your shoes in the spacious hallway and relax on cosy sofas in the stylish lounge. Rustle up family meals in the well-equipped kitchen and dine alfresco on the lofty patio, or enjoy morning coffees in the pretty garden near the open ornamental fish pond (children should be supervised here). Source garden inspiration and sustainability ideas along the Italianate terraces of Tapeley Park (2 miles). Shop in the historic market towns of Barnstaple (6 miles), and Bideford (4 miles), where you can also board the MS Oldenburg to Lundy Island. Hire a bike and join the Tarka Trail at Instow, an old railway route with 30 miles of traffic-free paths, or visit family-friendly RHS Rosemoor (10 miles), for seasonal activities. This is a lovely, well located house in INSTOW. It is a very good size (we were 5 adults). Kitchen/dining space is excellent. Very pretty garden. Well equipped. Good bedrooms. INSTOW is a small village with a few good places to eat. The beach area is lovely but does seem to be the beach where everyone walks their dogs. The village is on an estuary Read moreso although there are walks from the house we drove most days to pick up coastal walks. We hired bikes and rode along the Taka trail, great fun. Hide

Fantastic property and an even better location just a couple of minutes from the water. This holiday cottage had everything we needed and more. We found the fish very relaxing in the pond. Great local walks. Tapeley gardens are worth a visit. Would of lived to have stayed for longer.

Nicely present accommodation in a lovely location with a very short walk to the beach. Having a downstairs bedroom and bathroom was very useful. Nice large kitchen and lovely garden. Well equipped.

This is a very well furnished, beautifully presented cottage in a lovely little village. The garden areas are delightful, although parasol would have made alfresco dining more comfortable. The kitchen equipment is plentiful and there was milk, tea, coffee and some biscuits provided which was a nice touch, although the kitchen is not equipped with sRead moretore-cupboard basics. We'd thoroughly recommend this cottage, and would choose it again. Hide

The house was more spacious than we expected and very comfortable and well equipped. The location was perfect, with the beach and several excellent places to eat within a short walking distance.

The cottage was wonderful in all respects....clean, well equipped, comfortable and a delight to spend the half term week in. My granddaughters loved feeding the fish, the garden was lovely, well kept and tidy. Heathersett is a lovely property, very spacious and comfortable. Very close to the beach and local shops and not far to the Tarka Trail. We enjoyed our stay very much, despite the weather!!

We really enjoyed our stay at Heathersett and were very lucky with the weather. It was a lovely spacious, clean and comfortable bungalow with a very nice garden and plenty of seating areas to catch the sun. In a perfect position in the village for the beach, pubs, shops and also the Tarka trail. Hopefully, we will visit again.
