Set on an 80-acre working farm, this former barn nestles in the stunning Devonshire countryside and has the added benefit of a heated swimming pool, tennis lawn and games barn.
This cosy bolthole offers homely one-storey accommodation in a stone property, for that quintessential Devonshire experience. It’s in a pretty, rural spot 2.5 miles from Chulmleigh, a hilltop market town dating back to Saxon England. With a gorgeous double room and a bunk room, it’d suit a couple or a small family – and one dog is welcome to come along, too.
Enter this picturesque building straight into the welcoming open-plan living area which has a vaulted ceiling and gorgeous wooden ceiling beams. Tasteful cottage-style features add to the charm – think stable-style doors, stylish curtains and sweet mullion windows. There’s a corner sofa for lounging plus a wooden table and chairs where you can tuck into holiday meals. In the cosy bedroom, you can relax with some TV after an action-filled day. This room leads to the bunk room, which has a door out to an enclosed garden – perfect for having a BBQ and absorbing some Devon sunshine on the lawn. When you’re not splashing around in the shared pool (mid May-Sept) you can explore the 80 acres of working farmland surrounding the accommodation.
This part of Devon is known for its ancient woodland, species-rich grasslands and also the Little Dart River, a tributary of the larger River Taw. To discover the area’s unspoilt countryside, head to Eggesford (7.5 miles) and join the Tarka Trail which is ideal for cycling and walking. You’ll want to spend an afternoon in Chulmleigh, exploring its scenic winding streets and perhaps popping into some local shops and art galleries before going for a drink in one of its pretty pubs. Exmoor National Park starts just 12.5-miles north, where you can discover the beautiful landscape of moorland, woodland, coast and rivers on foot or by car.
