Property code: LAKCO

Offering glorious sunset views over the ocean and across Bideford Bay, this sweet courtyard cottage is only a mile away from the amazing stretch of sands at Westwood Ho! The only town in Britain with an exclamation mark in its name, it’s the perfect place for a traditional family holiday beside the sea. Grab a coffee and head to the elevated balcony in the morning to watch the sun come up in warmer months or take in the view through the French doors when temperatures drop.

Accessed via an external set of stairs, you will arrive at a welcoming open-plan living area where, in cooler months, you can gather around the warming wood burner effect electric fire. A double en-suite bedroom is also on this floor, perfect for guests who would prefer to not have a second set of stairs to climb. Open-sided stairs lead down to the ground floor kitchen and dining area where you can gather round for a meal together. It’s also the perfect place to prepare some pre-dinner drinks to take up to the balcony, ready to soak up those inspiring sea views.

Head down to the 2-mile stretch of sands at Westwood Ho! with its traditional seaside shops and fish and chip restaurants. Just behind the beach, you will find interesting walks at Northam Burrows Country Park where you can meet the local wildlife amongst the sand dunes and saltmarshes. The pretty harbour village of Appledore is just under 2 miles from the property and is a perfect spot to sit with an ice cream, watching the boats passing by or you can catch the ferry across to Instow with its great selection of bars and restaurants.

The owners were really helpful, and communicated well throughout the process. The cottage was well stocked equipment wise, and there were even some basic food essentials which was appreciated after a long journey. Distance to amenities was good, circa 15 minutes walk to the seafront and its various restaurants / pubs.

The hosts were able to accommodate a last minute request to stay at the property due to an emergency when we were struggling to find somewhere to stay. It had everything we could have needed and more, plenty of space, comfy beds, a lovely shower and fast wifi. We enjoyed a lovely stay at Lakenham Cottage, great location. The property was pretty dated in places which was possibly reflected in the price as it was very spacious and well equipped. The owner who lives next door was friendly and helpful, suggesting local places to visit etc. Lovely sea view from balcony currently not affected by building worksRead more. Bed was very comfy. Hide

Great place for a weeks stay. The building work that is going on did not cause us any bother, the most you can hear is the beeping of machines from the balcony area - which is a lovely space with views of the sea in the distance. Although there is no garden for dogs you are only a 5 minute drive from Northam burrows and the sea. I have a golden retRead moreriever and a spaniel and we walked the burrows twice a day and just used the lane to go out quickly. We had great weather and a lovely time. Hide

It was a beautiful spacious property within walking distance of Westward Ho! Appledore and Northam. There was a good dining room table for playing games, upstairs living room for relaxation, proper kitchen facilities, two bathrooms and high quality linen.
